As part of Team Thailand’s management and coordination staff for this tournament, I would like to explain several things so that people inside the stadium, fans watching from home, and Sepaktakraw supporters from both Thailand and Malaysia can better understand what happened.
Before this tournament, the Takraw Association of Thailand had just gone through a new presidential election and a complete restructuring of its management team. Many official procedures were still in progress and awaiting formal approval from the Sports Authority of Thailand, which affected our ability to call athletes into a proper long-term training camp.
Despite all of that, we still viewed the ISTAF World Cup 2026 as one of the most important tournaments in the world of Sepaktakraw. Team Thailand wanted to send the best athletes possible in order to respect the host nation, the fans, and the pride of representing our country.
Even though this tournament is not a multi-sport event like the SEA Games or Asian Games, within the world of Sepaktakraw, this is one of the biggest and most prestigious tournaments in the sport. That is why our athletes, coaches, and staff gave everything they had. We selected the best players, prepared seriously, and fully committed ourselves to this competition.
Our new coaching staff worked extremely hard. We organized athlete selections, training camps, and allowed players to compete in the Thailand Championships so we could properly evaluate and select the strongest possible squad for this event.
What many people may not know is that several athletes have been carrying enormous pressure and emotional stress ever since the SEA Games. Some players decided to compete in this tournament even though it could potentially be the final tournament of their careers.
After the match ended, some of our athletes were unable to cope with the emotional pressure and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Even today, one of our key players is still receiving medical care. These moments reflect just how much every single person sacrificed and cared about this tournament.
Of course, mistakes in officiating can happen in sports. However, what many people questioned was why incidents like this happened to Team Thailand, and many teams throughout the tournament seemed to have similar concerns as well.
In reality, the controversy in the final was not the first officiating issue in this tournament. Anyone who followed the competition from the opening matches until the final would have seen that there were already many discussions and concerns regarding officiating decisions throughout the event.
What we want to express is not an attack on referees personally. We understand that referees also work under pressure, and Sepaktakraw is an extremely fast sport where certain moments are very difficult to judge with only the human eye.
But in modern international sports, many competitions now use technology to assist officiating in order to improve accuracy, transparency, and fairness — whether it is VAR, Hawk-Eye, or replay systems.
We hope Sepaktakraw can move in that same direction. Important decisions should not rely solely on eyesight and human judgment alone, because in the end, fairness and credibility are the foundation of every world-class sport.
If Sepaktakraw truly wants to grow globally and move closer toward the Olympic level, improving officiating standards and embracing technology may become one of the most important steps for the future of the sport.
Many people also asked: “If Thailand respects the Malaysian fans and respects this tournament, why didn’t the team continue playing?”
What I want to clarify is that Team Thailand did not walk out of the stadium. We did not abandon the tournament. We chose to concede and stop competing because we felt the situation had gone too far, and we did not want this kind of officiating controversy to continue happening in the future.
For us, this was the most respectful form of surrender possible.
Even after stopping the match, Team Thailand remained inside the stadium, respected the host nation, respected the tournament, and respected the fans completely.
Our athletes and staff continued participating in all official ceremonies. Every player still attended the medal ceremony alongside the host nation with full respect. Even athletes who were receiving medical attention rushed back in order to stand with their teammates during the ceremony.
That alone shows how much respect we still had for this tournament and everyone involved.
What Team Thailand did was never about creating conflict or attacking another country. We simply do not want situations like this to happen again to any team in the future.
In many sports around the world, the inability to maintain officiating credibility has become one of the reasons those sports struggle to reach the Olympic level. We hope this moment can instead become an opportunity for Sepaktakraw to learn, improve, and move forward together.
We are not blaming Malaysia. We are not blaming the host nation. And we certainly have no issues with the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association.
Deep down, everyone wants the same thing — to see Sepaktakraw grow together.
Anyone who has followed me for a long time would know that I have always tried to help Thai people better understand Malaysia, including Malaysia’s transparency, professionalism, and commitment to developing Sepaktakraw.
I have always tried to showcase the things Malaysia does well — from league systems, event organization, sports presentation, media production, and their vision for growing Sepaktakraw internationally.
Many people even joke that I sound more Malaysian than Thai sometimes.
But the truth is, I was never trying to take sides. I simply wanted Thailand to learn from the things Malaysia does successfully so we could improve ourselves as well.
Because in the end, Thailand and Malaysia should not be enemies in Sepaktakraw. We should be rivals who push each other forward so this sport can continue growing on the world stage together.
One phrase I heard many times from Malaysian sports leaders was:
“Go Together.”
And I truly believe in that idea.
Even though this situation ended with disappointment and sadness, I still hope it can become the beginning of important discussions that help Sepaktakraw improve in the future.
Finally, I would like to sincerely apologize to all Sepaktakraw fans, especially Malaysian supporters who traveled from far away and waited for this important final match.
Thank you to all Thai fans and media members who reached out, listened, and tried to understand what our athletes and staff were going through.
Your support reminded us that the voices of athletes and teams still matter, and it gives us strength to continue standing for the future of Sepaktakraw.
At the end of the day, we do not want hatred, division, or conflict between nations.
We simply want Sepaktakraw to move forward with higher standards, greater fairness, and a stronger future for the next generation of athletes and for the sport we all truly love.
ในฐานะผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการทีมและผู้ประสานงานของทีมชาติไทยในครั้งนี้ วันนี้ผมอยากออกมาพูดและชี้แจงในหลาย ๆ เรื่อง เพื่อให้ทั้งคนที่อยู่ในสนาม คนที่ติดตามอยู่ทางบ้าน รวมถึงแฟนตะกร้อทั้งไทยและมาเลเซีย ได้เข้าใจสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นมากขึ้น
ก่อนการแข่งขันครั้งนี้ สมาคมกีฬาตะกร้อแห่งประเทศไทยเพิ่งมีการเลือกตั้งนายกสมาคมและคณะผู้บริหารชุดใหม่ ทำให้หลายกระบวนการยังอยู่ในช่วงของการดำเนินการและรอการรับรองอย่างเป็นทางการจากการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย ส่งผลให้เราไม่สามารถเรียกนักกีฬาเข้าแคมป์เก็บตัวได้ตามระยะเวลาที่ควรจะเป็น
แต่ถึงอย่างนั้น พวกเรายังคงมองว่า ISTAF World Cup 2026 คือรายการสำคัญ และเป็นเวทีที่ทีมชาติไทยควรส่งนักกีฬาที่ดีที่สุดลงแข่งขัน เพื่อให้เกียรติกับเจ้าภาพ แฟนกีฬา และชื่อเสียงของประเทศไทย
ถึงแม้ว่ารายการนี้จะไม่ใช่มหกรรมกีฬาแบบซีเกมส์หรือเอเชียนเกมส์ แต่สำหรับวงการเซปักตะกร้อแล้ว นี่คือหนึ่งในรายการที่ยิ่งใหญ่และสำคัญที่สุดของโลก นักกีฬา ทีมงาน และสตาฟโค้ชทุกคนจึงทุ่มเทกันอย่างเต็มที่ เราคัดเลือกนักกีฬาที่ดีที่สุด เตรียมทีมอย่างหนัก และตั้งใจกับทัวร์นาเมนต์นี้จริง ๆ
ทีมงานและสตาฟโค้ชชุดใหม่พยายามทำงานกันอย่างหนัก เรามีการคัดเลือกนักกีฬา เก็บตัวฝึกซ้อม และให้นักกีฬาออกแข่งขันในรายการชิงแชมป์ประเทศไทย เพื่อดูศักยภาพจริงและเลือกคนที่ดีที่สุดสำหรับรายการนี้
หลายคนอาจไม่รู้ว่า นักกีฬาหลายคนแบกรับทั้งความกดดัน ความคาดหวัง และสภาพจิตใจที่หนักมากมาตลอดช่วงหลังซีเกมส์ที่ผ่านมา บางคนตัดสินใจลงเล่นรายการนี้ ทั้งที่อาจเป็นการแข่งขันครั้งสุดท้ายในชีวิตของเขา
หลังจบการแข่งขันเมื่อคืน นักกีฬาบางคนถึงขั้นรับมือกับความเครียดไม่ไหว ต้องเข้ารับการรักษาที่โรงพยาบาล และวันนี้ก็ยังมีนักกีฬาตัวหลักอีกคนที่ต้องเข้ารักษาตัวเช่นกัน สิ่งเหล่านี้สะท้อนให้เห็นว่า ทุกคนทุ่มเทกับรายการนี้มากจริง ๆ
แน่นอนว่าในการแข่งขันกีฬา การตัดสินอาจมีความผิดพลาดเกิดขึ้นได้ แต่สิ่งที่พวกเราตั้งคำถามคือ ทำไมเหตุการณ์แบบนี้จึงเกิดขึ้นกับทีมชาติไทย และหลายทีมเองก็คงรู้สึกไม่ต่างกัน ว่าสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นนั้นเกิดจากอะไร
และจริง ๆ แล้ว เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในรอบชิงชนะเลิศกับทีมชาติไทย ไม่ใช่ครั้งแรกที่มีประเด็นเกี่ยวกับการตัดสินในทัวร์นาเมนต์นี้
ถ้าใครติดตามการแข่งขันมาตั้งแต่แมตช์แรกจนถึงแมตช์สุดท้าย จะเห็นได้ว่า หลายเกมมีเสียงพูดถึงเรื่องการตัดสินออกมาค่อนข้างเยอะเช่นกัน
เพราะฉะนั้น สิ่งที่พวกเราอยากสื่อ ไม่ใช่การออกมาตำหนิผู้ตัดสินโดยตรง เพราะเราทุกคนเข้าใจดีว่ากรรมการเองก็ทำหน้าที่ภายใต้ความกดดัน และกีฬาที่รวดเร็วแบบเซปักตะกร้อ บางจังหวะก็ยากต่อการตัดสินด้วยสายตาเพียงอย่างเดียว
แต่ในยุคปัจจุบัน หลายชนิดกีฬาระดับโลกต่างเริ่มนำเทคโนโลยีเข้ามาช่วยในการตัดสิน เพื่อเพิ่มความแม่นยำ ความโปร่งใส และลดข้อโต้แย้งที่อาจเกิดขึ้น ไม่ว่าจะเป็น VAR, Hawk-Eye หรือระบบรีเพลย์ที่ดีกว่านี้หรือทำไมต้องเป็นเฉพาะลูกสำคัญ
พวกเราจึงอยากเห็นกีฬาตะกร้อพัฒนาไปในทิศทางนั้นเช่นกัน ไม่ใช่ปล่อยให้ทุกอย่างขึ้นอยู่กับสายตาและดุลยพินิจของกรรมการเพียงอย่างเดียว เพราะสุดท้ายแล้ว สิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดคือความยุติธรรมของการแข่งขัน และความน่าเชื่อถือของกีฬาตะกร้อในระดับโลก
ถ้าเราต้องการผลักดันให้เซปักตะกร้อเติบโตไปไกลกว่านี้ การเปิดรับเทคโนโลยีและยกระดับมาตรฐานการแข่งขัน อาจเป็นอีกหนึ่งก้าวสำคัญของอนาคตกีฬาชนิดนี้
มีหลายคนถามอีกว่า ถ้าเราเคารพแฟนตะกร้อชาวมาเลเซีย และเคารพทัวร์นาเมนต์นี้จริง ทำไมทีมชาติไทยถึงไม่เลือกเล่นต่อ
สิ่งที่ผมอยากอธิบายคือ ทีมชาติไทยไม่ได้ “วอล์กเอาต์” หรือเดินออกจากสนามกลางการแข่งขัน แต่เราเลือก “ยอมแพ้” และไม่ขอแข่งขันต่อ เพราะพวกเรารู้สึกว่าสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นมันมากเกินไป และเราไม่อยากให้มาตรฐานการตัดสินแบบนี้เกิดขึ้นอีกในอนาคต
สำหรับพวกเรา นี่คือการยอมแพ้ที่สมบูรณ์แบบที่สุดแล้ว เพราะแม้เราจะยุติการแข่งขัน แต่ทีมชาติไทยยังคงอยู่ในสนาม ให้เกียรติเจ้าภาพ ให้เกียรติทัวร์นาเมนต์ และให้เกียรติแฟนกีฬาทุกคนอย่างเต็มที่
นักกีฬาและทีมงานของไทยยังร่วมพิธีการทุกอย่างตามปกติ ทุกคนขึ้นรับเหรียญร่วมกับเจ้าภาพอย่างสมบูรณ์แบบ แม้กระทั่งนักกีฬาบางคนที่กำลังอยู่ระหว่างการดูแลรักษา ก็ยังรีบกลับมาร่วมพิธีรับเหรียญกับทีม เพราะพวกเราให้ความเคารพต่อรายการนี้ และต่อแฟนกีฬาทุกคนจริง ๆ
สิ่งที่ทีมชาติไทยตัดสินใจทำในครั้งนี้ ไม่ใช่เพราะเราอยากสร้างปัญหา หรืออยากมีเรื่องกับใคร แต่เพราะเราไม่อยากให้เหตุการณ์แบบนี้เกิดขึ้นอีกกับทีมใดในอนาคต
ในโลกกีฬา มีหลายชนิดกีฬาที่ไม่สามารถก้าวไปสู่ระดับโอลิมปิกได้ ส่วนหนึ่งก็เพราะเรื่องมาตรฐานการตัดสินและความน่าเชื่อถือของการแข่งขัน เพราะฉะนั้น สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นครั้งนี้ พวกเราหวังว่ามันจะเป็นอีกหนึ่งจุดเริ่มต้น ที่ช่วยผลักดันให้กีฬาตะกร้อพัฒนาไปในทิศทางที่ดีขึ้นร่วมกัน
พวกเราไม่ได้โทษประเทศมาเลเซีย ไม่ได้โทษเจ้าภาพ และไม่ได้มีปัญหากับสมาคมตะกร้อมาเลเซีย เพราะลึก ๆ แล้ว ทุกคนต่างมีเป้าหมายเดียวกัน คืออยากเห็นกีฬาตะกร้อเติบโตไปด้วยกัน
ถ้าคนที่ติดตามผมมาตลอด ก็คงจะรู้ดีว่า ผมพยายามอธิบายให้คนไทยเข้าใจประเทศมาเลเซีย รวมถึงความตั้งใจ ความจริงจัง และความโปร่งใสในการพัฒนากีฬาตะกร้อของประเทศมาเลเซียมาโดยตลอด
ผมพยายามนำเสนอในสิ่งที่มาเลเซียทำได้ดี ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องการจัดการแข่งขัน ระบบลีก การทำสื่อ การสร้างบรรยากาศกีฬา หรือแนวคิดในการพัฒนาตะกร้อให้เติบโตในระดับโลก เพราะผมเชื่อว่า ถ้าเราเปิดใจเรียนรู้จากกันและกัน วงการตะกร้อจะพัฒนาได้เร็วกว่านี้
จนหลายคนแซว หรือมองว่าผมเหมือนเป็นคนมาเลเซียไปแล้วด้วยซ้ำ
แต่จริง ๆ แล้ว สิ่งที่ผมพยายามทำมาตลอด ไม่ใช่การเข้าข้างฝ่ายใดฝ่ายหนึ่ง ผมแค่อยากนำเสนอในสิ่งที่อีกฝ่ายทำได้ดี เพื่อให้ตะกร้อไทยได้เห็น ได้เรียนรู้ และนำกลับมาพัฒนาตัวเอง
เพราะสุดท้ายแล้ว ผมเชื่อว่า ไทยกับมาเลเซียไม่ควรเป็นศัตรูกันในกีฬาตะกร้อ แต่ควรเป็นคู่แข่งที่ช่วยผลักดันกันและกันให้กีฬาชนิดนี้เติบโตไปด้วยกันในระดับโลก
ตลอดเวลาที่ผ่านมา ผมพยายามสื่อสารเสมอว่า ไทยและมาเลเซียสามารถเดินไปด้วยกันได้ในกีฬาตะกร้อ เพราะคำที่ผมได้ยินจากผู้บริหารฝั่งมาเลเซียบ่อยที่สุดคือ “Go Together” — เราจะพัฒนาไปด้วยกัน
และแม้เหตุการณ์ครั้งนี้จะเต็มไปด้วยความผิดหวังและความเสียใจ แต่ผมหวังว่ามันจะเป็นอีกหนึ่งจุดเริ่มต้น ที่ทำให้วงการตะกร้อเรียนรู้ กลับมาทบทวน และพัฒนาไปในทิศทางที่ดีกว่าเดิม
สุดท้ายนี้ ผมอยากขอโทษแฟนตะกร้อทุกคน โดยเฉพาะแฟนชาวมาเลเซียที่เดินทางมาจากหลายพื้นที่เพื่อรอชมการแข่งขันสำคัญในแมตช์นี้ ขอบคุณทุกกำลังใจจากแฟนกีฬาชาวไทย รวมถึงสื่อมวลชนทุกสำนักที่ติดต่อเข้ามา รับฟัง และพยายามเข้าใจในสิ่งที่ทีมกำลังเผชิญอยู่
สิ่งเหล่านี้ทำให้พวกเรารู้ว่า อย่างน้อยเสียงของนักกีฬาและทีมงานยังมีคนรับฟัง และมันทำให้พวกเรายังมีพลังที่จะยืนหยัดเพื่อกีฬาตะกร้อต่อไป
ท้ายที่สุดนี้ พวกเราไม่ได้ต้องการให้ใครเกลียดกัน ไม่ได้ต้องการสร้างความแตกแยกระหว่างประเทศ แต่เราเพียงอยากเห็นกีฬาตะกร้อเดินหน้าไปด้วยมาตรฐานที่ดีกว่าเดิม เพื่ออนาคตของนักกีฬา รุ่นต่อ ๆ ไป และเพื่อให้กีฬาที่พวกเรารัก เติบโตไปได้ไกลกว่านี้จริง ๆ
