Halfway through her ten-week residency with ComPeung, artist Taetyn Panagos has been experimenting with digital painting and what she terms ‘free associative digital processing’ – a type of stream-of-consciousness work in which she attempts to fully render her mind’s subconscious and scattered images. In the latter, these impressions weave together to form a composite image of her experience in various spaces, including her recent travels to India, Nepal, and now, Thailand.

In her remaining time at ComPeung, Taetyn will continue exploring this process, as well as her new-found interest in digital painting. Extending from her background in classical oil painting, in digital work she has found immense freedom, as it offers her an intensity of color and an immediacy that she finds unpredictable and liberating.

ComPeung, Thailand’s longest ongoing artist-in-residence program since 2007, is seeking applicants for 2020.

ComPeung is the ideal place to immerse yourself in creative exploration, as you are surrounded by nature and the unique culture and landscape of Northern Thailand. Living in a slow and thoughtful environment, you will have the opportunity to focus deeply on your work and ample space to test its boundaries.

Residency in our supportive artist-run community is available from June 2020 to December 2020. Interested artists with an established practice in any creative discipline may apply now for residencies ranging from one to three months.

Check out the recently updated work of Portland-based artist/performer/storyteller, Sarah Bernstein!

In her 2016 residency at ComPeung, Sarah developed a series of autobiographical dances inspired by the traditions of Japanese Butoh Dance. Captured on film, these performances have since been crafted into three intimate snapshots of love, loss and dreaming.

There is no deadline. We accept rolling applications but would recommend you to apply at least 1-2 months prior to your desired residency period to ensure your space. The application can either be for 1-3 months and is open to artists, artisans and thinkers. We are looking for an enthusiastic person or team to continue ComPeung artist residency. Minimum one year, ideally three years contract to really make this program grow to your own potential.

You will get:

Day to day operations currently include:

Condition of the space:
- Three earthen houses with separate large western kitchen and communal space
