Meet the “Unicorn of the Sea” 🦄🌊

The Ornate Eagle Ray is so incredibly rare that it’s currently listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, with their population dropping drastically over the last three generations.

I captured this eagle ray 2 years ago in Hulhumale, Maldives. The moment I jumped into the water, it just swam right past me completely out of nowhere! At first, I thought it was just a regular eagle ray. But as soon as I noticed that mind-blowing pattern on its back, I kicked my fins like crazy and turned on my camera to chase the shot. 📸🏃‍♂️
Talk about ultimate luck! Honestly, I don’t even know if I’ll ever get to see one again in this life. 💙✨

กระเบนสายพันธุ์หายาก”Ornate Eagle Ray” ที่ปัจจุบัน IUCN จัดว่าสายพันธุ์นี้อยู่ในสถานะใกล้สูญพันธุ์อย่างยิ่ง และลดลงเป็นอย่างมากในช่วง 3 อายุคนที่ผ่านมา

เจ้าตัวนี้ผมเจอที่ Hulhumale/Maldives เมื่อ 2 ปีที่แล้ว ในขณะที่โดดลงน้ำก็เห็นว่ายผ่านหน้ามาเลยแบบไม่ทันตั้งตัว ทีแรกนึกว่ากระเบนนกธรรมดาที่พบเจอได้ทั่วไป แต่พอสังเกตเห็นลายบนตัว ผมก็รีบสับฟินตามอย่างรวดเร็วพร้อมเปิดกล้องเพื่อตามไปถ่ายรูป 📸🏃‍♂️

โชคดีมากจริงๆ ไม่รู้ว่าในชีวิตนี้จะมีโอกาสได้เจออีกมั้ย 💙✨

Everyone knows that when you go on a liveaboard, night dives are part of the deal! 🌌✨
But during this night dive, I came across a discarded fishing net with some poor creatures trapped inside. We managed to free them all and recover the net back to the boat, so I filmed the whole process to show you guys how it’s done. 🎥
Just a heads-up: recovering ghost nets like this is super risky and requires serious caution, as it can easily put yourself and other divers in danger. It’s always best to leave this to professionals and those with proper experience to stay safe! 🙏🤿

เป็นที่รู้กันดีว่าการมาดำน้ำแบบ liveaboard นั้น คือเราจะได้ดำน้ำตอนกลางคืนกันด้วย

แต่ในการดำน้ำตอนกลางคืนครั้งนี้ผมได้เจอซากแหที่ถูกทิ้งไว้ และมีสิ่งมีชีวิตติดอยู่ข้างใน เลยทำการปล่อยสิ่งมีชีวิตเหล่านั้นแล้วเก็บกู้แหขึ้นมาบนเรือ เลยถ่ายคลิปวิธีเก็บกู้มาให้ดูกันครับ

การเก็บกู้แบบนี้นั้นเป็นสิ่งที่ต้องระวังเป็นอย่างมาก เพราะมีโอกาสที่จะทำให้เกิดอันตรายต่อตัวเองและนักดำน้ำคนอื่นได้ ควรปล่อยให้เป็นหน้าที่ของผู้เชี่ยวชาญและมีประสบการณ์เพื่อความปลอดภัยครับ

✨ New Nudibranch Alert! “Phestilla viei” Discovered in Thailand 🇹🇭🐚

Led by Rahul Mehrotra, researchers have found a brand-new, highly camouflaged nudibranch species in the Gulf of Thailand! This coral-feeding slug (Pavona explanulata) is a master of disguise, with a translucent white-to-yellow body growing up to 28 mm. Named viei in honor of Vie Panyarachun (Admin of Sea Slug Thailand) for his incredible contribution as a citizen scientist to Thailand’s marine research! 👏 (Phestilla viei Mehrotra, Caballer & Chavanich in Mehrotra, Arnold, Wang, Chavanich, Hoeksema & Caballer, 2020)

ทีมนักวิจัยไทยนำโดยคุณ Rahul Mehrotra ค้นพบทากเปลือยสายพรางตัวฉกาจชนิดใหม่ล่าสุดจากแนวปะการังฝั่งอ่าวไทย!
* ความพิเศษ: เป็นทากกินปะการัง (Pavona explanulata) ที่พรางตัวได้เนียนสุดๆ ลำตัวยาวเรียวสีขาวโปร่งแสง-เหลืองอ่อน ยาวได้ถึงราวๆ 28 มม.
* ที่มาของชื่อ: ตั้งชื่อสกุล viei เพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่ คุณวีร์ ปันยารชุน แอดมินเพจ Sea Slug Thailand ในฐานะที่อุทิศตนช่วยรวบรวมข้อมูลเพื่องานวิจัยทากทะเลไทย 👏

If the reef had superheroes, the Peacock Mantis Shrimp would be at the top of the list. Here are some of his characteristics:
* Vibrant Colors: They are famous for their stunning, rainbow-like shell, resembling a peacock’s patterns.
* Complex Eyes: They have some of the most advanced eyes in the animal kingdom, capable of seeing polarized light and many more colors than humans.
* Powerful Punch: They possess “smashers” (club-like appendages) that can strike with the speed of a .22 caliber bullet, strong enough to break shells or aquarium glass.
* Small but Mighty: Although they only grow to about 3-7 inches, they are one of the most efficient predators in the ocean.

Okinawa during humpback whale season is something truly unforgettable. 🐋✨
In the early months of the year, mothers come here to give birth and care for their calves before returning to the deep blue.
Seeing them is always a privilege, never a guarantee.
The ocean decides everything, and that is part of the beauty. We follow strict rules, respect their space, and simply feel grateful for whatever the day gives us. 🌊
It’s an experience I fall in love with again every year. Have you ever seen humpback whales in the wild?

สวัสดีครับทุกคน วันนี้ผมจะพาไปเที่ยวในทริปว่ายน้ำกับ Humpback Whales ที่ Okinawa ครับ

ในช่วงต้นปีของทุกปีจะเป็นช่วงที่แม่วาฬมาคลอดลูกและเลี้ยงดูอยู่ในบริเวณนี้ ก่อนที่จะพาลูกน้อยออกไปเผชิญโลกกว้าง เราจึงมีโอกาสที่จะได้มาดูกันเป็นประจำ

การดูวาฬก็จะมีกฎต่างๆให้เราต้องทำตามเพื่อความปลอดภัยของวาฬแม่ลูกและตัวเราเอง ที่เราต้องทำตามกันอย่างเคร่งครัด

การจะได้เจอมากเจอน้อย เจอใกล้เจอไกล จะไม่ได้เจอเลย หรือเรือยกเลิกการออกเรือในวันนั้นๆเพราะลมพายุ ทั้งหมดขึ้นอยู่กับดวง

ผมหลงรักในเสน่ห์ของการมาโอกินาว่าเพื่อดูวาฬแบบนี้ในทุกๆปี อยากให้ทุกคนได้ลองมากันครับ 🙂

คุณเคย night dive กับฉลามมาไหม

ในเมืองไทยมีจุดดำน้ำตอนกลางคืนที่พิเศษอยู่ที่นึงชื่อ Tachai Reef อยู่ในอันดามันเหนือ

ความพิเศษของที่นี่คือมีโอกาสลุ้นที่จะได้เจอฝูง Blacktip Reef Shark ออกหากินตอนกลางคืน

ฉลามที่ผมเคยเจอส่วนมากจะค่อนข้างตัวใหญ่ขนาด 1 เมตรเป็นต้นไป บางตัวน่าจะใหญ่เกิน 1.5 เมตรเลย ถ้าเราโชคดีพอ อาจจะได้เห็นฉลามกินเหยื่อต่อหน้าด้วย

ถ้ามีโอกาสลองมาดำน้ำที่นี่กันนะครับ แนะนำว่ารอให้เกินทุ่มนึงไปก่อน รอถึงสองทุ่มค่อยลงน้ำได้ยิ่งดี เพื่อรอให้ฉลามเริ่มมีความตื่นตัวในการล่าครับ
