Pushing Limitz sessions also focus on a
mix of strength and aerobic exercises, similar to Cross-fit, but introduce personalised goals and also games, that really help you to push yourself to reach new levels. Sessions vary each day, and every week and are every 45 minutes, but actual time exercising is typically 25 minutes to 30 minutes. The objective though is to push yourself as hard as you can in that shorter time. Every session is carried out with Leigh the trainer, and every session is different, with different exercises, different objectives for different muscle groups. Some sessions involve games, others are tabatas or circuits or count downs - the idea is to keep it interesting and varied while being effective. Monday/Tuesday is a metabolic mixed aerobic/strength session. Metabolic means there is little or no rest between exercises so as to maximize calorie burn and increase metabolic rate during and after the workout. These sessions typically involve at least one or two strength exercises, often using dumbbells and a number of more aerobic exercises such as burpees, sprints and core exercises such as variations on sit-ups, planks etc. Wednesday/Thursdays are for toning muscles through supervised strength sessions by doing exercises using the weights bench as well as other strength exercises. Different muscle groups are targeted each week. Friday/Saturday are metabolic aerobic sessions, with more aerobic exercises, usually using lighter weights than Monday/Tuesday, but more reps
There is no need for you to do each type of session, but many regulars do usually aim to do three or four sessions per week, one of each type of workout. Many regulars though do only two or even one session per week, and some only focus on one specific type of workout such as the strength workouts on Wed/Thu which are difficult to do at other gyms. For those coming along for the first time Leigh will usually carry out an initial assessment of your level of fitness through a Trial Workout - which is a simplified workout designed for all levels of fitness and experience.
