Aren't 'snacks' supposed to be light? You know, just coffee, tea, or maybe a tiny cookie? But look at this! The Mandarin Queen 9 serves THIS every single day, and they are terrifyingly punctual about it.
This is simply unfair! Lunch had barely settled, and suddenly... HERE WE GO AGAIN! 😱 I even tried hiding in the saloon to escape, but they still tracked me down to feed me!

"Are you tired of breaking your back every time you have to get on a small boat to reach a dive site? Hauling heavy tanks, climbing onto a rocking boat, and risking a slip and fall?
But say goodbye to that problem right here! Today, I’m showing you the super cool logistics system on the Mandarin Queen 9.
They’ve solved the transport issue using two dinghies with awesome names: 'Whale Shark' and 'Manta Ray.'
Their method is flawless. Take a look at the BCDs—they attach color-coded tags to sort the teams. If you have a Red tag, you head to the Manta Ray. If you have a Blue tag, you go to the Whale Shark.
Here’s the best part: the staff handles everything. They load all our gear into specific blocks on the dinghy for us. All we have to do is walk on board looking cool and beautiful—totally hands-free. No heavy lifting required!

Hey guys, did you know? This island is actually the closest one to the mainland out of the entire Similan archipelago!

If you’re driving past Khao Lak, take a look out at the ocean. That island you see in the distance? That is Koh Bon.

Let’s check out the popular dive spots here. Honestly, you can dive all around the island, depending on whether the wind is being kind to us that day. But for the standard, safe spots, take a look at the map in the photo:

📍 Spot 1: "The Bay"
This is the prime spot every boat aims for—first come, first served for the mooring buoy! It’s perfectly sheltered from the wind by the island's curve. Underwater, it’s mostly hard coral. It's an easy dive with zero current, making it the only dedicated spot for snorkelers too.

📍 Spot 2: "The Waterfall"
Want a Hollywood-style shot? Wait for the moment the water cascades down from the island rocks. The waves crash up and flow back down like a waterfall. From underwater, looking up, the crashing white water looks like an atomic mushroom cloud! It’s unique and absolutely stunning.

📍 Spot 3: "The Ridge" (West Ridge)
Usually, the current here is strong... it just depends on the day how strong! It’s the toughest spot to dive, with a high chance of drifting out into the deep blue. But... this is exactly where we usually encounter the Manta Rays!

📍 Spot 4: "The North Reef" (or The Hole)
This spot is on the other side of the island's ridge. It features hard coral, but the highlight is a massive field of coral rubble. You have to use your imagination to picture how grand it once was. It might look like there’s nothing there, but my core memory here is a "Whale Shark." I encountered one right here over the broken coral years ago.

WARNING: If your nerves aren’t steel and your skills aren’t sharp... please SCROLL PAST this post right now!
There is another "legend" resting quietly beneath the Phang Nga sea since August 2009.
Take a look at the graphic we prepared. That is "SEACHART WRECKED," a massive log carrier that lost its battle against the storm and sank into the abyss... I believe many of you have never heard its name, never touched it, and many others might shake their heads and walk away just hearing about it.
Why, you ask? Why is this wreck an "Unseen" spot that people rarely visit? It’s because there are 4 major obstacles that make it extremely difficult for divers to access:
* 1. "Dangerous" Depth: The seabed sits at 40 meters! The deck is around 28 meters. This touches the "Red Zone" of Recreational Diving. The massive pressure and tiny NDL (No Decompression Limit) times mean you must plan your dive with absolute precision.
* 2. Unpredictable Currents: This is not a swimming pool, friends. The currents sweeping through this open-ocean wreck can be calm, but when they hit, you’ll be scrambling to grab the line. High-level buoyancy and balance skills are a must.
* 3. The Charm of Murkiness: The water here isn’t always crystal clear like the Similans. The sediment and darkness give it a "mystical" and "awe-inspiring" vibe—like watching a thriller movie where a ghost ship slowly emerges from the fog. That is exactly where the excitement lies.
* 4. Hard to Find!: This is a classic problem. Since the wreck is deep, pinpointing the exact coordinates requires a captain with high expertise. Many trips set out with high hopes but come up empty-handed because they simply couldn't find the wreck.
But wait... If you read those 4 points and feel "fear," I suggest you skip this post.
However, if you read them and feel your "blood pumping," feeling that this is the "challenge" real divers seek... You are exactly who we are looking for!
These hardships are the filter that keeps Seachart raw, pristine, and wild. The scattered logs still tell the story of the day it sank. Many people think that a Liveaboard is simply a boat that goes out for diving, and you just sleep on board and that's it... 😴

But actually, the Liveaboard in Thailand has TWO different realms! ✨
* The World where the boat sails out and returns to shore on a fixed schedule (Traditional Liveaboard).
* The World where the boat doesn't return to shore (Station Liveaboard).

🚢 The Two Liveaboard Styles
1. Traditional Liveaboard (Fixed Route)
This type of boat sails along a specific route, like the Similan–Richelieu Rock itinerary. You typically do 3–4 dives per day, and the boat moves to the next dive site.
⚠️ A friendly warning: Your dive time might be limited because the boat has to reserve time for travel between sites!

2. Liveaboard Station (The "Hop-On, Hop-Off" Style)
Now, don't let the name fool you! This boat isn't just sitting still! It operates more like a bus service, constantly running a loop to change dive spots over a 7-day cycle.
✅ The exciting perks:
* You can join and leave the boat on ANY day you want! Talk about ultimate flexibility!
* No fatigue from the back-and-forth travel like a regular day trip.
But, as your honest expert, I'll be upfront about the limitation:
⚠️ Just a heads-up: Some of these boats might not have super luxurious amenities (they focus on being simple and functional).

🤩 How to Do a Similan Islands One-Day Trip? (It's Super Easy!)

**Getting Started:**

It’s incredibly simple! A shuttle van will come to pick you up in the morning, usually around **7:00 AM to 7:30 AM**. The exact time depends on where you are staying, but you must be in the designated areas of **Khao Lak, Thap Lamu, or Bang Sak**. The van will then take you directly to the **Thap Lamu Pier**.

**The Sea Journey:**

The speed boat generally departs right at **8:00 AM**. The trip out to the majestic "Similan" islands takes about **1 hour and 30 minutes**. Once you arrive, everyone splits up to enjoy the activities they booked, whether that's **snorkeling or scuba diving**.

**Choosing Your Ride: Two Main One-Day Trip Options (Pros & Cons Analysis!):**

When it comes to the round-trip Similan one-day excursion, there are two main types of boat services available. Let’s take a quick look:

# # # 1. The Full Speedboat Experience
* **The Trip:** Traveling to and doing your activities (snorkeling/diving) all from the **Speedboat**.
* **👍 Pro:** The biggest upside here is **speed**! You can move between dive/snorkel spots very quickly.
* **👎 Con:** The main drawback is comfort. The seating area on a speedboat can feel **cramped and crowded**. The restroom is often tiny and inconvenient, so you might have to rely on the restrooms available on an island. However, some routes don't include an island stop, depending on the day you book. **In short: Fast, but not super comfortable.**

# # # 2. Speedboat Transfer + Big Boat Diving/Snorkeling
* **The Trip:** You travel quickly via **Speedboat** but then transfer to a **Big Boat** for the actual water activities.
* **👍 Pro:** This method is quite popular because the **Big Boat** offers much more room! It has proper **restrooms**, tables, and plenty of open space for sunbathing or just chilling out.
* **👎 Con:** The trade-off is that with this option, you usually **don't get to go up onto the island** itself. That means no beach walks or visiting the famous viewpoints, unless you book an overnight stay on the Big Boat, in which case you might get to walk on the beach and hit the viewpoint in the afternoon.

**The Return Trip:**

At around **3:00 PM** in the afternoon, the speedboats start heading back from Similan to Thap Lamu Pier, arriving approximately at **5:00 PM**. After that, the shuttle van will take you back to the same hotel where you were picked up. If some guests are traveling onward, they can also be dropped off at other pre-arranged meeting points, such as a bus station.

**When Can You Go?**

Similan One-Day Trips are available **every single day** during the official Similan Season, which runs annually from **October 15th to May 15th**.

See? When you break it down like this, it’s really not difficult at all to visit the most beautiful sea in Thailand!
