SAIMSA, the Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Sports Association was born in 2007 in Walvis Bay Namibia four years after the first games were held in Botswana. The sole purpose of the existence of the association is to promote municipal sport as a concept in the SADC Regions. Currently only five Countries have participated in SAIMSA events since inception namely Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Swaziland. Annually, SAIMSA run a week long sports meet under the banner of SAIMG, Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Games. In this event municipal employees and employers come together to compete in various sporting codes. The sporting codes are determined by the participants and currently ten sporting codes are popular among municipal employees and employers. Like in any competition performance is rewarded by the award of floating trophies and medals. The 12th SAIMG shall be held in Buffalo City, Eastern Cape in the last week of September 2014. It is our hope that the 2014 games shall be the best after the successful hosting of SAIMG 2013 in Swakopmund, Namibia. As SAIMSA we are also proud to announce an increase in the SAIMSA family with the participation of Lesotho and Zambia . Maseru City Council has participated since the 2012 games and Ndola participated in the 2013 games in Namibia.
