Our Volunteers are doing so well with these youngsters, Shaka and Rony!

Shaka (homebred WB cross) grew up wild in the bush, came very nervous of humans and sadly had serious injury to his hind fetlocks which almost saw him disqualified. But he is gaining both strength and courage and is becoming such a cuddly character! The hill work (banks) is helping develop youngsters in strength and proprioception... Trails here we come!!

This amazing young mare, Rony, came to us in August 2025, desperately skinny, with her 6 mo foal Batman. We didn't think she would make the trip. She was riddled with Theileria, a debilitating tick-borne disease, heavy worm load and giving her everything to little Batman regardless. And here she is, a year later, being backed. Such a gentle soul, with the staying power of a warrior. Rony is no2 contributing to the learning of our volunteers, as they contribute to her development. It's all win-win!

Simplicity bring Serenity 🥰

The exquisite Hippo Pool, or Big Dam, has an unlikely story. The site was once the biggest tin mining donga (erosion) on Mlilwane, a terrible scar on the landscape. In the 1960's the dam wall was built... the result is this special view which reaches every cell in your body, stirring the primal knowing, calming and settling the soul.

Our surprise foal Stormy begins his weaning process.🥺 it's so amazing that he is already 6 months!

Rain arrived skinny, and as she picked up weight and began her retraining last year, she became angry and defensive. We then realised her tummy was... pregnant!

Rain is a super Mum, very protective. Stormy has shown amazing independence, often enjoying aunty Flicka rather 🤣

But now it's time... separated during the day while we can watch, and then reunited thru the night for a week. It's heart wrenching splitting mum and baby. I guess we all grow up?
