THE NRBA RAMADAN THIRST TOURNAMENT ENDS AT A FASCINATING HEIGHT

The Northern Region Basketball Association-NRBA “Ramadan Thirst Tournament-2024” ended at a fascinating height as Biriwa Warriors triumphed over Makeni Shooting Stars in a tight encounter in the final on the 11th of April 2024 at the Makeni Wusum Basketball Court.

In a very contested four-quarters, the three-quarters produced a margin of two points when Biriwa Warriors led slightly by 2 points until the final quarter which saw the mastered piece performance by Momoh Kamara of Biriwa Warriors who was named both MVP of the Final And Best Guard of the Tournament, carried his side to victory with seven points, eight turnovers and ten assists with some dribbles and one on one creativity

Champion Biriwa Warriors hauled home Five Hundred Leones (NLe 500) as a Cash Prize. The Warriors smashed all their opponents in the Tournament to be crowned unbeaten champions.

However, runner-up Makeni Shooting Stars bagged home Two Hundred Leones (NLe 200) as Cash Prize and had another day to fight back as they bowed to Biriwa Warriors by 37 points to 27 points.

Titus Noah Kargbo of Makeni Shooting Stars won the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, this is after he led his team to the final with a total height of 71 points in the Tournament. His teammate, Bendu Kamara clinched the Best Center of the Tournament after a powerful showpiece of twenty rebounds, 22 points, and fifteen turnovers throughout the Tournament. Abdulai Stanley Bangura of Biriwa Warriors won the Best Forward of the Tournament, after some jump hooks and layups total of 22 points in the Tournament.

The Chairman of the NRBA, Abu Mohamed Mansaray expressed appreciation for the ballers’ professionalism displayed throughout the Tournament and pledged that, this will not be the last competition noting that “This is our first activity in 2024, and it is in line with the Federation to be having basketball tournament at the regional level before the National Competition” he affirmed

RAMADAN THIRST TOURNAMENT CLIMAX SEMIS FINAL

The Northern Region Basketball Association (NRBA) “Ramadan Thirst Tournament climaxes its Semi-final games as Biriwa Warriors will face off against Makeni Shooting Stars in the final

This is how it happened:

Semi-Final one

On the 7th of April, Biriwa Warriors came out in the semi-final after a whopping 45 points to 16 points against Wusum Dragons on the opening day.

However, knowing a win against Pastoral Flyers who lost their first game against Makeni Shooting Stars is enough to reach the final, did exactly that with a smasher of 38 points to 17 points of Pastoral Flyers as Abdulai Stanley Bangura had been the standard man helping his side Biriwa Warriors with eleven points, three assists, and four turnovers throughout the four quarters as he bagged home the Most Valuable Player of the Match award.

Semi-final two (8/4/2024)

Makeni Shootings Stars propelled its first game with a cracker netting 60 points to 44 points to pass Pastoral Flyers to the semi-final. More so, in the semi-final against a wonded lion Wusum Dragons, Makeni Shooting Stars failed to put the performance expected, and Wusum Dragons fought hard to complete 79 points to 69 points.

Titus Noah Kargbo's incredible individual performance earned him the Most Valuable Player of the Match award with a hacker of 36 points, albeit failed to lead his side Makeni Shooting Stars to victory but a cumulative score from their first game of 60 points was collated to make the final as they will play Biriwa Warriors on the day after Pray Day at the Makeni Wusum Field Basketball Court at 5:20pm.

Quick updates

There will be slight changes in the ongoing Northern Region Basketball Association “Ramadan Thirst Tournament”

The first semis Final will be played today at 5:20pm between Biriwa Warriors Vs Pastoral Flyers and the second Semi-final to be played tomorrow at 5:20pm between Makeni Shooting Stars Vs Wusum Dragons.

More so, there will be a meeting at the end of the second semis to determine how the finalist will be reached, whether the two teams with the highest scores or a win ratio.

THE NRBA “RAMADAN THIRST TOURNAMENT 2024”

The “Ramadan Thirst Tournament” is the first Basketball Tournament organised by the Northern Region Basketball Association-NRBA in 2024 and this is part of its pile of activities ahead for the 2nd edition of the National Basketball Competition.

Day one, on the 4th of April 2024, produced a sensational performance between Biriwa Warriors Vs Wusum Dragons at the Makeni Wusum Field Basketball Court. Biriwa Warriors won in a whooping margin of 45 points to 16 points as Mamud Marrah's standout displayed with 14 points and 5 rebounds was enough to be named the MVP of the Match.

Day 2, on the 5th of April 2024, elicited a tight encounter between Makeni Shooting Stars Vs Pastoral Flyers. The four quarters saw a magnificent performance of two equals but the Makeni Shooting Stars put on a display in the last quarter to edge Pastoral Flyers 60 points to 44 points. Richard Foussne’s individual 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 turnovers were enough to win MVP of the match but unable to turn things around for his Pastoral Flyers’ side.

The semi-final fixture sets Biriwa Warriors Vs Wusum Dragons and Makeni Shooting Stars Vs Pastoral Flyers on the 7th and 8th of April 2024 respectively.

The Grand final is arranged for a day after Pray-Day, at the Makeni Wusum Field Basketball Court.

MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARIAT OF THE SIERRA LEONE BASKETBALL FEDERATION
Dear arhletes, national executives , regional executives team executives and basketball loving fans, these are extremely challenging times for all of us as the world faces an unprecedented surge of a deady virus that has brought the activities of our globe to a standstill. The implications of this on our game is huge and unforeseeable but God willing it will all pass and we shall return to our court to play.
While we wait for such a time we encourage you all to engage in productive off court activities like reading basketball rule books and watching videos in preparation for when we resume our activities, God willing. To the athletes, you can also use this time to work on your skills as long as you do it reasonably to yourself.
We encourage everyone to comply with the government's preventive measures and stay healthy and safe.
-Wash your hands regularly
-Avoid crowded areas
-Stay away from people coughing and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and
- Use a mask to cover your mouth and nose always and above all lets pray the virus doesn't come to Sierra Leone.

The most conspicuous Basketball friendly between Bo City and Kenema City in Bo basketball court ended up in a peaceful atmosphere and jubilant mood.

The rim got it sound, the ballers got their dribbles so the Snickers made their shoe sound and the court got the crowd at the end of the normal time.

On the scoreboard full time results is Bo City Basketball team *43points and Kenema City Basketball team 40points*

*The Sierra Leone Basketball Federation to host its international friendly for the first time in recent Years*

This comes as the new executive of the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation accepts the proposed Basketball friendly game from The Liberia Basketball Association that is set to take place between the 23-27 January, 2020 at the National Stadium basketball court in Freetown.

The up coming basketball friendly will feature various games ranging from 1st division to 2nd division games followed by a female all Stars Exhibition.
Come and watch the dribbles and get the sound of the Snickers at the National Stadium Basketball Court in Freetown from the 23rd to the 27th January, 2020.
