Following recent reforms by the *Sierra Leone Football Association under the leadership of President Babadi Kamara,* aimed at revitalizing the *national football ecosystem, a structured and workable youth league calendar* has been introduced to strengthen grassroots development across the country.
In line with this progressive move, the *Kono District Football Association (KDFA),* under the leadership of Chairman Abubakar Mansaray, has officially kicked off its *Youth League, covering the U-12, U-14, U-15, and U-17 categories.*
The competition kicked off *today, Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, with the U-12 and U-14 categories* marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for youth football in the district.
This initiative represents a significant milestone in *nurturing young talent, offering players a well-organized platform for competition, development, and exposure.* It also reinforces the commitment of both the SLFA and district football bodies across the country to building a sustainable future for the game from the grassroots level.
A total of *eleven (11) teams are participating in the U-12 category, twelve (12) teams in the U-14 category, eight (8) teams in the U-15 category, and six (6) teams in the U-17* category in this year’s edition.
The official kickoff was performed by the *Head of Youth Football Ishmael Turay, accompanied by KDFA Vice Chairman Tamba Ngaugh, Secretary General Komba Kelvin Kembay, Deputy Secretary General Tamba Komba, Head of Competition Osman Junisa, and Youth Coordinator Musa Fanday.*
The competition will continue tomorrow with *fixtures in the U-15 and U-17 categories.*
