It was a fierce competition from the beginning and Grassfield community proved to be the strongest and emerged as the champions of the Western Area Rural District Football Association and Western Area Rural District Council Sport Committee 120,000 Leone Inter Community Football Competition.
The journey to the finals was not an easy one for Grassfield community. The competition started with 32 communities from the Western Area Rural District coming together to showcase their football skills and represent their communities. With the determination and hard work of the boys from the Benguma axis, they were able to secure the top spot and make their community proud.
Their journey to the finals was marked by impressive wins and a strong display of teamwork. They started off with a bang, scoring the opener and securing three points in their first match against Tombo community.From then on, they remained unbeaten throughout the competition, solidifying their position as the team to beat.
On the other hand, the runner up of the competition, Campbell town community, also showed an impressive performance throughout the tournament. They were known as the home of superstars, with a team filled with big names and talented players. However, in the grand final, they were defeated by a single goal in the first half, unable to break through the strong defense of Grassfield community.
Apart from the winning team, individual players were also recognized for their outstanding performances. Dilvine Kamara of Grassfield community was awarded the best player of the tournament, and the first goal scorer while the title of best coach went to Charles Chandoze Vandy, head coach of Grassfield community. Issa Kamara of Rokupa community was the highest goal scorer, and Santigie Sesay of Grassfield community received the award for best goalkeeper. Not only players, but even the best commentator award goes to John Champion and best supporter award goes to Mohamed Jalloh Aka Turn Turn were also given recognition for their contributions to the tournament.
The grand final, held on Sunday 22nd March 2026, at the Bassatown playing field was a thrilling event filled with emotions, excitement, and drama. The whole community came together to support their team, making it a memorable day for everyone. The Western Area Rural District Football Association and Western Area Rural District Council Sport Committee can take pride in organizing a successful and competitive inter community football competition that brought the community together and showcased the talent and passion for the sport in the district.
Congratulations to Grassfield community for their well-deserved win and for making their community proud. The championship trophy and prize money of 120,000 Leone are a testament to their hard work and dedication. We look forward to seeing them defend their title in the next edition of the competition.
