*NSA Executive Director Pays Courtesy Visit to Sierra Leone National Commission for UNESCO*

Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., on Wednesday 3rd June 2026 paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone National Commission for UNESCO at Tower Hill, Freetown.

Welcoming the new NSA Boss, Dr. Mohamed C. Kamanda congratulated the Executive Director and explained that the Commission serves as the liaison between UNESCO Headquarters and MDAs in the country, including the Ministries of Technical and Higher Education and Sports.

“The Commission has assisted NSA in the past, and we remain fully committed to continuing our collaboration for the furtherance of sports in the country. UNESCO is always ready to provide NSA with technical and expert advice on sports and its related activities in the country,” Dr. Kamanda said.

Responding, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh expressed gratitude to Dr. Kamanda and his team for their hospitality. He stated that, as an agency, NSA stands ready to work with the Commission. The Chief of the Authority requested Dr. Kamanda’s personal and the Commission’s support for the agency.

“NSA needs your support beyond anti-doping and the African Traditional Games and Sports. I wish to present myself to you as your younger brother for guidance and strategic direction,” Conteh said.

The Executive Director concluded by noting that the Ministry of Sports and the NSA will meet to develop project proposals for the Commission’s consideration and intervention.

Presenting the new NSA Executive Director to the President, Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, described the appointment of Mr. Conteh as a major boost for the sector. She noted that her job has become easier with the new Executive Director at the helm of the country’s only statutory sports agency.

“He is a down-to-earth, respected and humble person. He consults widely and listens well. Thank you, Mr. President, for this appointment,” Minister James-Teima said.

The Minister further stated that significant progress including decorum, dignity at work, transparency, and the partial handover of the National Stadium have already been achieved in less than one month after the appointment of Mr. Conteh.

“Looking at our collaboration, constructive engagements and shared vision, I am optimistic of more achievements in the coming months,” she added.

Speaking at the meeting, President Bio formally welcomed the new Executive Director and congratulated him.

“My government focuses on youth empowerment, and I truly believe in the young people of this country. Your appointment to lead the NSA has already begun producing positive results, as expressed by the Minister,” the President said.

He admonished the Executive Director to work diligently to serve the nation and to guard his reputation in the discharge of his duties. President Bio strongly encouraged the Minister and the NSA Boss to collaborate in delivering sport, noting that sport unites the nation and does not recognize APC or SLPP. He recalled the 2021 AFCON qualification, when the entire nation rallied behind one common purpose: Leone Stars.

“With the level of teamwork in the sector, I am confident that Sierra Leone will qualify for the 2027 AFCON,” the President said.
