Lately, I have been reflecting on this, in my own life and with many of the professionals I work with. That space in between, where things are unclear, shifting, not fully formed yet. We often rush to find direction but the magic is often in places that have not yet been defined or even given a name. And sometimes, the real work is learning to stay there, to listen and to trust the process. You are not off track if you do not have it all figured out. You might just be exactly where life needs you to be.

Join me this Friday in a Master class followed by a Coaching experience : The Inner Shift: Mastering Mindset and Heartset in Times of Transition. In this session, I will guide you through the 7 Steps to a Successful Transition, offering a structured yet deeply human approach to navigating life beyond the humanitarian sector.

While we will touch on all seven steps, we will delve more deeply into mindset and heartset as the true foundation of any meaningful transition. Because in reality, it is not strategy that keeps people stuck or moves them forward. It is what is happening internally.

Together, we will explore what transition really asks of you beyond changing roles. We will look at identity, uncertainty, fear, and the often invisible conditioning that comes with years in humanitarian work. You will be invited to reflect on what might be holding you back, not just practically, but emotionally and mentally. The first part of the session is an interactive masterclass, where you will gain insights, language, and clarity around your own transition process.

This is not a passive learning space. You will be invited to think, feel, and engage.

The final 30 minutes is a hands on coaching experience, where you will work with guided exercises to uncover your own blocks, reconnect with your inner compass, and identify small but meaningful steps forward.

This is a space to pause, reflect, and begin shifting from simply thinking about change to truly embodying it.

Networking.
A word that makes many humanitarians visibly uncomfortable.
“I don’t want to ask people for favours.”
“I hate selling myself.”
“I wouldn’t even know what to say.”
I hear this all the time from aid professionals who are exploring life beyond the sector. The truth is networking is not about asking for a job and definitely not about being pushy. It’s a relationship building exercise and
at its core, it’s simply curiosity and conversations.

It can start with something as simple as:
“I’m exploring this field and would love to hear about your experience.”

The same goes for something we often forget during transitions: community.
When you leave the aid bubble, you also leave behind a built-in support system. Rebuilding connections and belonging outside the sector is just as important as finding your next professional step.

This is exactly what we will explore in the next Monthly Community Call on the topic of Networking and Support Systems. We will talk about:
• how to start authentic networking conversations
• how to activate your existing contacts
• how to build new communities outside the humanitarian world

My February newsletter is out.
And this time, I am exploring two topics that I see coming up again and again in conversations with aid and purpose driven professionals.

The first is perfection.
In times of transition, seeking perfection is rarely helpful. It promises safety, but often delivers paralysis. Many people wait for the perfect plan, the perfect timing, the perfect sense of certainty before taking the next step. But transition is not a single decisive move. It is a process. A series of steps, pauses, experiments and recalibrations.

The second theme is portfolio careers.
In an increasingly unstable world, portfolio careers are becoming a very practical way of future proofing your career while making the most of your skills. Instead of relying on one role or employer, a portfolio approach allows you to combine different roles, income streams and professional identities over time. It creates resilience, choice and often more enjoyment in how you work.

These were the words of one participant at the end of the 7 Steps to a Successful Transition programme. I did not create this programme quickly. And I did not create it lightly. It grew out of years of listening to humanitarian professionals in transition, out of hundreds of coaching conversations and of course of my own transition from active international humanitarian work.

This is not a blueprint for how you should live your life. It is a deep, immersive commitment to yourself. A space to pause and ask the questions many humanitarians carry quietly for a long time.
🌱 The Humanitarian Transition Path is a six month guided group coaching journey created specifically for aid and international nonprofit professionals navigating transition, whether by choice or by circumstance. It is grounded in the 7 Steps to a Successful Transition framework. It offers structure without pressure, depth without overwhelm, and movement without rushing. This is not a job search programme. And it is not about abandoning your humanitarian identity. It is a deeply human process that supports clarity, confidence, emotional resilience, financial awareness, and realistic next steps, held within a small and trusted group of peers who truly understand humanitarian life. Over the past months, I have been testing a 6-MONTH GUIDED TRANSITION PATH for HUMANITARIAN PROFESSIONALS who feel that a shift is already happening. Not a quick exit strategy but a structured, supportive space to regain clarity, confidence, and direction with practical tools and tips. It’s those of you who wish to consciously design the next chapter of work and life.
This coaching journey, inspired by following the 7 Steps to a Successful Transition Framework is shaped by years of listening to and working with humanitarian professionals in transition, including my own. The programme offers a structured, holistic and safe space to slow down, make sense of what is happening, and begin moving forward with clarity and intention.
