⏳HISTORY TUESDAY🧐

Today, we delve into the captivating world of Slovenian literature and honor the legacy of one of its foremost figures, the esteemed writer, France Bevk. Born on September 17, 1890, Bevk emerged from humble beginnings in the picturesque village of Zakojca. His upbringing in this serene locale nestled beneath the Kojca mountain range profoundly influenced his literary works, resonating with themes of rural life, identity, and resilience.

Bevk's ancestral home, affectionately known as Pri Volarju, stands as a poignant testament to his enduring influence. Initially acquired by his grandfather, Jakob, a cobbler and ox herder, this quaint stone dwelling witnessed the formative years of Bevk's childhood and early adulthood. In 1990, commemorating the centenary of the writer's birth, this historic homestead was lovingly transformed into a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into Bevk's life through ethnological and literary-historical exhibitions.

Beyond the rustic charm of his birthplace lies Bevk's literary oeuvre, a rich tapestry of prose that reflects the essence of Slovenian culture. Through works like "Kaplan Martin Čedermac" and "Pastirci," Bevk captivated audiences worldwide, transcending linguistic boundaries with translations into over twenty languages. His profound impact on Slovenian literature endures, inspiring generations with tales that resonate with universal truths and timeless wisdom.

As we honor the legacy of France Bevk, let us embrace the enduring power of storytelling to illuminate our shared human experience and foster a deeper appreciation for the cultural tapestry that binds us all📚🌟

⏳HISTORY TUESDAY🧐

Today, we reflect on the profound history of TIGR as we honor its pivotal role in the Primorska region during the tumultuous years between the World Wars. Founded clandestinely in 1927 on Nanos by six courageous individuals, TIGR—Trieste, Istria, Gorizia, Rijeka—stood as a beacon of resistance against the encroaching forces of Italian fascism.

TIGR was a revolutionary underground organization of Slovenian and Croatian patriots, primarily anti-fascists. It operated in the Slovenian and Croatian ethnic territories that were annexed to Italy under the Treaty of Rapallo. Many members of this organization were associated with Yugoslav intelligence, and some individuals also had connections with the British intelligence service; they were also militarily trained. The organization had an agreement with the Communist Party of Italy. TIGR attacked fascist institutions, patrols, and carried out sabotage. The reason for its formation was primarily the violent Italianization of the indigenous Slovenian and Croatian population by the squadristi and other pro-fascist Italian units, as well as the burning of the Slovenian National Hall in Trieste. The organization operated on the principle of triads. Only the members of the triad knew each other, and only the leader of the group had contact with the next triad or leadership. The triads then formed cells, sectors, and communities.

Despite being labeled a terrorist organization by Italian authorities, TIGR's actions were rooted in a deep-seated desire for self-determination and cultural preservation. Through their cultural resistance and clandestine operations, they left an indelible mark on the landscape of Primorska.

Today, let us honor the memory of TIGR and its members who bravely fought against tyranny. Their courage and resilience serve as a timeless reminder of the power of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
