A significant milestone for the pigeon racing community! 🕊️
The European Commission’s European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency has highlighted Bulgaria’s High & Safe campaign (part of the LIFE for Falcons project), in which AviRings also played a role with high-flyer tracking rings.
LIFE for Falcons focuses on a rarely addressed but sensitive conservation issue: the conflict between pigeon fanciers and birds of prey.
"In close collaboration with the Bulgarian Federation of High-Flying Pigeon Fanciers and with technical support from the Slovenian company AviRings, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) worked directly with pigeon breeders to test non-lethal, science-based prevention methods under real field conditions.
Over the summer of 2025, 13 high-flying pigeon flights were carried out across four regions of Bulgaria, involving 140 pigeons and 11 pigeon fanciers.” - LIFE for Falcons website
BSPB conservation expert Dr Stoyan Nikolov:
“By combining field experiments, new tracking technology, and open dialogue, we built trust with a traditionally hard-to-reach community and demonstrated that coexistence is both realistic and achievable.”
The mentioned flights were monitored using AviRings Highflyer Rings, and we are proud that our technology contributed to such an important conservation initiative. 🌍

High altitude endurance pigeons are vulnerable to attack by birds of prey as they fly for hours over Bulgaria. LIFE for Falcons builds bridges between pigeon fanciers and conservationists to protect both pigeons and raptors.
