📌 Research at the IBU Junior Open European Championships: Insights from Young Biathletes

At the IBU Junior Open European Championships in Imatra, our researchers had the chance to step right into the heart of competition and listen to young biathletes and their coaches. Between races, training, and recovery, they shared honest stories about what it really means to balance sport and education.

Different countries, different systems, but one shared challenge: time. ⏱️

These conversations remind us why supporting dual careers matters so much.

Ljubljana united students, athletes, and partners for our second in-person meeting and first Multiplier Event. 🙌

🎯 Highlights:
• Students learned about the project’s goals and first insights
• A round-table on balancing education and elite sport with three Slovenian biathlon representatives
• Partners reviewed the first draft of our project app and planned the next steps

The days in Ljubljana strengthened our teamwork and set a clear direction for what comes next.

Have you ever considered pursuing a dual career or wondered what benefits it could offer? 🎓🎯

That’s exactly what we asked Oskar Brandt, coach of the Swedish University Team. Drawing on his own experience, Oskar explained how preparing for life beyond biathlon has equipped him with valuable organisational skills and the ability to balance sport and study. It has also given him access to unique networking opportunities in both sport and academia, and helped him make friends for life.
