We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Maurice Slapak CBE, pioneering transplant surgeon and founder of the Transplant Games.
From the first Games in Portsmouth in 1978, Maurice’s vision has grown into a global community bringing thousands of transplant recipients, living donors, donor families and supporters together through sport — celebrating the gift of life and the importance of staying active after transplantation.
Maurice passed away peacefully on Sunday, 9 August while the 48th British Transplant Games were taking place in Sheffield.
We thank him for his dedication as a surgeon and advocate for organ donation. He will be remembered with enormous gratitude and respect.

Za vedno je odšel Dr. Maurice Slapak, upokojeni transplantacijski kirurg iz Velike Britanije, je bil ustanovni predsednik Svetovne federacije za igre transplantiranih od njene ustanovitve leta 1978 do leta 2004. Uvedba teh iger je bila zasnovana tako, da je vidno prikazala uspeh presaditve s prikazom, da so ti športniki zdaj v formi in zdravi. Dr. Slapak je bil skozi leta iz prve roke priča uspehu federacije pri doseganju povečanja števila presaditev organov kot rezultat Svetovnih iger transplantiranih in različnih drugih pobud federacije. Igre so javnosti uspele in še naprej uspevajo dokazati, da lahko dar življenja omogoči kvaliteto življenja. Ob izteku mandata nas je tudi obiskal leta 2004 na evropskih igrah dializnih in transplantiranih v Ljubljani.
