Race recap: Grado Olympic 🇮🇹
A race well outside my comfort zone.
Considering my last Olympic-distance triathlon was seven years ago, I had almost forgotten just how brutal this distance can b, especially when your body isn’t used to racing at these intensities. A midday start means a rough and choppy sea. Swimming 1,600 m in 26 minutes is certainly nothing to brag about, but it is what it is. 🤷♂️
Then, during the very first kilometre on the bike before I even managed to get my feet into my shoes, a nasty crash in the roundabout right in front of me. While avoiding the crash my seatpost dropped and the saddle tilted. I had to ride the entire bike leg like that, which left my legs completely destroyed heading into the run. The running conditions were hellishly hot, but I still managed a solid 35-minute 10K and moved up several places to finish 7th overall and take the AG win. 🥇
Overall it was a lovely day because I even got beautifull photos from my lovely wife and no.1 supporter Lara Batič Lavrenčič larabatic ❤️❤️❤️
