How do young rhythmic gymnasts actually make the jump to the Singapore National Squad, like our former gymnast Mirabelle?

Often, it comes down to a path that goes far beyond regular club classes.

In many cases, reaching the national team isn't just about training more hours, it requires navigating a very specific, high-performance pipeline.

Athletes have to hit strict minimum score thresholds set by Singapore Gymnastics at major selection events, transition from local training into the Singapore Gymnastics Development Programme (SGDP), and eventually earn their spot at the National Training Centre (NTC).

That’s exactly what an elite competitive track demands:
1. A rock-solid foundation in the FIG Code of Points, making sure every routine is built mathematically for maximum ex*****on and difficulty scores.
2. World-class technical coaching that catches minor mistakes in flexibility and apparatus handling before they become hard habits to break.
3. An environment surrounded by other intensely driven athletes, which builds the mental resilience needed to compete under national-level pressure.

Getting onto the national squad takes years of grit, but it starts with a club environment that prepares them for what’s ahead.

We couldn't be prouder to see Mirabelle thriving with the National Squad at the NTC, proving just how far hard work and the right foundation can take you.

If your gymnast has big competitive goals and you're curious about how to start them on the national pathway, message us and we’ll walk you through it!

Why do so many elite rhythmic gymnasts actively seek out a completely different coaching approach when preparing for major competitions?

We tend to assume top-level success is about training more hours or being stricter.

But the most effective coaches at that level aren't pushing athletes harder, they're coaching smarter. They view the sport through a strategic lens, blending deep technical mastery with an understanding of what actually works on the competition floor.

That's exactly what this kind of coaching brings to the carpet:
1. Hyper-specific technical cues, replacing vague feedback with exact physical adjustments, like "hold a coin between your ankles," so the gymnast knows exactly how to fix a skill instantly.

2. A mathematical approach to routine building. If a high-risk throw is losing points, they don't force the gymnast to drill it until she breaks, they swap it for a reliable element to protect the final score.

3. An "authoritative democratic" coaching style. They hold the standard, but actively ask the gymnast what she felt during a rotation, building a confident athlete who can self-correct when the coach isn't there to save her.

This approach doesn't replace an athlete's foundation, it sharpens it, giving gymnasts the strategic edge they need when the margins for error are so small.

We build this level of strategic, high-performance coaching into our own training programmes, so our athletes get that edge right at home.

If you're curious about our coaching approach or upcoming masterclasses, message us or book via the link in bio and we'll walk you through it!

Struggling with her splits even though she trains constantly? Her lower back might be part of the problem.

An excessive arch in the lower back doesn't just strain the spine, it can actually make her hips look less flexible than they really are, and raise her risk of injury on back-flexibility skills.

These are 2 of the exercises we use to correct it: planks to keep the core engaged and the spine neutral, and hip raises to strengthen the glutes and take pressure off the lower back.

Save this for your next training session, and follow along so you don't miss the rest.

Elite doesn't happen by accident, and it definitely doesn't happen on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Why do so many competitive gymnasts end up at a summer camp instead of just training harder at their local club?

Often, it comes down to what's actually available where she trains.

In many places, competitive rhythmic coaching just isn't easy to find nearby.

Some gyms don't have the ceiling height for hoop and ribbon tosses, some coaches can't keep up with how quickly FIG scoring rules change, and sometimes there's just no elite programme close enough to reach.

That's exactly what intensive camps are built for:
- A full week of focused, hands-on training, more than most local programmes fit into a month.
- Guest coaches at from a different background or at the Olympic level who can spot and fix things a local programme might miss for months.
- A room full of other dedicated young gymnasts, which does more for confidence than any pep talk. Watching a peer land a tricky skill makes it feel possible for her too.

A camp adds to her home training, giving many gymnasts the extra push they need when the options nearby run out.

We love welcoming international gymnasts to our own June and December camps every year, giving them that same hands-on, focused experience.

If you're curious about dates or how to book a spot, message us and we’ll walk you through it!

Where does an elite or FIG gymnast actually start? Not where you'd think.

Most families assume competitive gymnastics is one big decision, either commit to everything early, or stay casual forever. In reality, it happens in stages, and each one answers a different worry parents have at that point.

As we offer two competitive pathways designed to nurture gymnasts at every level, the National or International Pathway, moving between stages isn't automatic.

Before a gymnast steps up, she goes through a real evaluation process, not just a coach's impression:

1. Basic Motor Skills Test - coordination and musicality, balance, strength, and apparatus control (hoop and ball), assessed once a year.

2. Competition Experience - real placement under official national judging standards.

3. In-House Mock Competition - held twice a year, simulating real competition pressure using the same scoring criteria.

4. Psycho-Physical Evaluation - motivation, stress handling, injury history, work ethic, and whether the family can commit to the training hours the next stage requires.

Our comprehensive evaluation process ensures gymnasts are ready for the demands of elite training through systematic assessment of physical and mental readiness.

And every part of it factors into a final decision made by our Head Coach and judging panel, and parents receive a full written evaluation explaining exactly where she stands, not just a yes or no.

So where does it actually start for her?
