We’re featuring Bryan, one of our members here at Anytime Fitness Geylang, whose fitness journey eventually led him all the way to rowing for the national team. Like many Singaporean sons, his journey first started during NS where he was “motivated” to train daily, but over time, working out became something he genuinely enjoyed and continued even after ORD. Things took a bigger turn when he joined his university’s rowing team, where he found not only a passion for the sport, but also strong friendships that kept him going. Eventually, he was invited to trial for the national team and successfully made it in!
One of Bryan’s biggest struggles has been staying consistent and motivated, especially on mornings when skipping training felt much more tempting than getting out of bed. What helped him push through was having supportive teammates and friends around him, people who motivated one another even on difficult days. Most mornings are spent out on the water rowing, while gym sessions or bike/row erg workouts are squeezed in during lunch breaks or after work.
His advice for anyone starting out is simple: the hardest part is walking through the gym door, but once you do, you’ve already won half the battle. He also strongly believes that consistency matters more than perfection, because “3 okish workouts per week beats 1 perfect workout everytime.”
Bryan also shared that the convenience of Anytime Fitness, along with the friendly AF Geylang team, has helped him stay committed to training. Beyond the 𝙎𝙀𝘼 𝙂𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨, his goal is simply to stay healthy and injury-free for the long run, so one day he’ll still be able to play with his grandkids.
