East Coast Park parkrun #516 🌅🧡
After a nervous evening watching the haze levels and wondering whether we’d be able to go ahead, it was wonderful to wake up to a clear decision — parkrun was ON! 🎉
James Benghiat captures the morning beautifully in this week’s run report, from the heat and humidity to the stunning sunrise, our international tourists, some fascinating East Coast Park traditions, and plenty of milestones to celebrate. A huge thank you to James for sharing his experience with us!

After last nights warning about cancelling due to the haze, we were delighted to wake up this morning and see that this parkrun was going ahead. It was very humid and the heat definitely got to me while running. We aren't used to humidity like this in England. The course was a lovely out and back along the coast, watching the sunrise on the out with the sea breeze offering some relief from the heat, with marshals at the turn around point to cheer you on. There were lots of tourists today from all around the world; there were tourists from England, Australia, New Zealand and Netherlands.
East Coast Park is a very popular well used park with plenty of activities going on early in the morning, as well as runners and walkers there were various gym sessions, tai chi and one that I had not seen before with people rubbing their ears and banging arms and upon googling I see this is a ritual which is a staple of morning public park exercises practiced by elderly Singaporeans. It blends Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupressure, Qigong, and wellness routines to stimulate blood circulation and clear the mind for the day ahead.
There was a few running milestones today:
Erin McFarlane and Magnus Lundgren completed 10 runs each today
Cindy Pelou and Saghir Hakim both completed their 25th run
Gail Benghiat completed her 400th run today
David Hunt also volunteered for the first time today.
Well done to the 15 runners and walkers today who achieved PB's.
Claire Mitchell completed her 565th run today which was the most for a female there.
Also Ian Jeffcock completed his 435th run which was the most for a male today.
There were 5 first timers today Emmanuel Guérin, Eloi De Rorthays, Iain Tucker, Autumn Lin and Lotte Nijmeijer, welcome to you all. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and continue coming back to parkrun.
