Sh*toryu Singapore Karate-Do Kai, Shinyuu Kai Building up the Karate community in Singapore

Shinyuu Kai Karate was founded in December 2015 by the principle instructors, also well-known as “Singapore’s Karate Couple”, Shihan Robert Tan and Sensei Cindy Seah. The husband and wife team have been dominating the 1st place podium finishes as the National Champion for both the Kumite (sparring) and Kata (pattern) categories in the last few decades. Shihan Robert Tan (7th Dan) has been a keen practitioner of karate for the last 40 years and have won numerous national accolades for his martial arts prowess, notably representing Singapore at the 7th World Union of Karate-Do Championship [WUKO] at Maastrich, Holland in 1984, clinching a respectable 8th placing out of over 30 international champions for his weight category. Shihan Robert Tan has also been coaching and helping to raise the profile of the local karate scene since 1980, as he has coached and produced many karate players who have represented Singapore in the national squad. Sensei Cindy Seah (6th Dan) is a well-respected female karate practitioner who has similarly proved her prowess, being part of the National Squad that took home a silver medal in the 17th SEA games held in Singapore and a bronze medal in the 16th SEA games held in Manila. Sensei Cindy has a passion for teaching, especially for children and female karate practitioners, as she is well-loved by many of her students, as parents and teachers alike entrust their charges to her good care. Shihan Robert Tan and Sensei Cindy Seah has been training for the last 40 years with the Sh*toryu Karate Association of Singapore (SKA). Together with the early pioneers of Karate-do, they were a part of a key group of instructors who helped to coach and build up the young karate talents in Singapore. It has also been the wish of both instructors to one day, branch out of their own and further grow a group of dedicated karate practitioner, bonded by their love of for this martials arts and friendship towards one another.

"Where Passion becomes Strength, and Hearts become Family"

Last Sunday, Shinyuukai celebrated our 10th anniversary, marking 10 years of dedication, hard work, and community 🤝.

10 years would not have been possible without the ever-loving guidance of both Shihan Robert and Sensei Cindy, as well as the unconditional support from our very own .

It is an honour to have been able to have Mr Roger Wang and Shihan Phun celebrate this milestone with us.

Onwards Shinyuukai ! 🦅🇸🇬

This Sunday, 9 August 2026, Sh*toryu Singapore Karate-Do @ Shinyuukai proudly celebrates our 10th Anniversary!
For the past decade, we've built more than a dojo—we've built a community founded on respect, perseverance, discipline, friendship and unity. This milestone belongs to every student, instructor, parent, and supporter who has been part of our journey.

One year on from the 14th Sh*toryu International Taikai.
We remain deeply grateful for the privilege of hosting this memorable event, which brought together more than 250 participants. The Taikai featured a Technical Seminar, Dan Gradings, Kata and Kumite competitions, and a wonderful farewell dinner, providing an opportunity for karatekas to learn, challenge themselves, and build lasting friendships.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the participants, Soke, officials, instructors, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication and enthusiasm made the event such a success. We look back with pride on what we achieved together and look forward to the next one in Osaka, Japan, in 2027.
Thank you for being part of this remarkable journey.

Last Sunday, our brave little took on the youth national stage and showed everybody the fire 🔥 and strength 💪 they got in them!

They brought home 2 Gold medals🥇 and 3 Sliver🥈medals, hip hip hooray! 🥳

All these were the results of their consistent hard work and effort. A job well done is an understatement, and we are all so so so proud of all of you, medal or not. 🙌

A big thank you to all the parents that rendered their unwavering support day in and out. This could not have been possible without all of you! A big (humongous) thank you to all parents! 🥰

Lastly the biggest appreciation given to our Shihan Robert, Sensei Cindy and all the Senpai(s) that have put in endless amount of hours into training sessions every weekend to ensure our warriors were given the best chance they got! Oss!!! 🥋
