🇸🇬 Can Learning Table Tennis Help Your Child Get Extra Points for PSLE? Here’s the Truth!
Recently, many parents have been asking:
“I heard that learning table tennis can help with DSA and earn extra points. Is that true?”
Here’s the honest answer: It can help, but it does NOT directly add points to your PSLE score!
Any promotion claiming “Sign up and get 2 extra points for DSA” can be ignored ❌
⸻
🎯 There are two main ways table tennis can actually help with your child’s education pathway:
1️⃣ Primary School → Secondary School: DSA-Sec
Primary 6 students with strong table tennis abilities can potentially secure a place through DSA-Sec based on their sporting talent.
However, this is a conditional admission, not extra marks added directly to the PSLE score.
Your child still needs to achieve the Posting Group required by the school in their PSLE.
And after entering the school through DSA, the student is expected to continue participating in the school’s table tennis CCA. DSA is not a shortcut to enter a school and then stop playing.
There are no shortcuts here — only genuine ability and consistent long-term commitment!
Examples of schools offering table tennis DSA-Sec in 2026:
South View? Nan Chiau High School, Temasek Secondary School, River Valley High School, and others.
2️⃣ After Secondary School: Applying to JC/Poly through CCA
If table tennis is your child’s official CCA during secondary school, their participation and achievements can contribute to their LEAPS 2.0 assessment.
* Excellent → 2-point bonus for admission
* Good → 1-point bonus for admission
But simply choosing table tennis as a CCA does not automatically guarantee bonus points.
The assessment takes into account four areas:
Participation, Service, Leadership, and Achievement.
Your child needs to build up their overall record across these areas.
🚨 Important: Certificates from private training academies do not count as DSA qualification by themselves!
Schools look at your child’s actual playing ability, trial performance, and official competition results.

💡 Our sincere advice:
If your child is considering this pathway, don’t wait until Primary 6 to start worrying about it.
Start by assessing your child’s ability early and understand how far they are from the DSA standard.
At New Century Table Tennis Academy Singapore, we help parents understand three important things:
✅️ Your child’s current playing level
✅️ How far they are from the DSA standard of their target school
✅️ What they should focus on training next
Make sure every hour your child spends training is moving them closer to their goals. 💪
