Nobody knows what’s actually found during beach clean-ups…👀
In this video, Tom, the founder of our amazing partners at shows us some of the weirdest and most unexpected things his team has pulled from the shores. It is a harsh reminder that our ocean is too often treated like a landfill.
To give you an idea of the scale and variety of the problem, here is a breakdown of what is actually washing up:
🥤 45% Single-use plastics
Items like plastic bottles, bags, and straws that are used for minutes but pollute for lifetimes.
🎣 25% Fishing gear
Abandoned nets, ropes, and traps that create deadly hazards and entangle vulnerable wildlife.
🔬 15% Microplastics & microfibers
The tiny, often invisible pieces that break down and infiltrate the entire marine food chain.
🛢️ 10% Industrial waste
Heavy-duty debris like containers, machinery parts, and construction materials.
🪥 5% Other consumer goods
Everyday household items ranging from discarded toothbrushes to car tyres.
Seeing this reality is a wake-up call. It is a reminder of how urgently we need to treat our waste properly, reduce our consumption, and protect the marine life that relies on clean waters to survive.
That is exactly why we do what we do. Through our partnership with , every Sandbar item purchased funds the removal of 1kg of this exact plastic and trash from our oceans. Together, we are funding the cleanup of everything from microplastics to heavy industrial waste.
Because every piece removed is a step toward a healthier ocean.
For our tomorrow. We are Sandbar.
