🎾🎾 Forehand and Backhand lateral movement ladder drill 🎾🎾
This drill focuses on a few main points:
1. Lateral & controlled movement while moving with two hands on the racket.
2. Unit turn on the move while opening the racket to the back.
3. Stepping in to the ball and swinging through. Notice the pivoting happens after the swing in to the ball based on the momentum used on the swing
Although this example is a shadowed example, the minute the player leaves the last square of the ladder, you should throw the ball for them to start points 2 & 3. This drill can be used by any player level. To make it harder, move faster and add resistance bands to your legs.
I'll back to posting content on drills, warm ups, exercises and some whacky tennis too! Let me know in the comments what you would like help on πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½

🎾🎾 HOW DO YOU PRACTICE THE TROPHY POSITION? 🎾🎾
It's easier to put it down here for you to read instead of speak about it and rush it in the video πŸ™Š
Hold the racket in your hand, behind your head making sure it's pointing up. Once you have this locked down, shadow toss the ball and get into the trophy pose. You DO NOT need to complete the serve motion, just as I have done in the first two motions of the video. Emphasis should be place on the knees being bent, tossing hand being straight and pointing up to the sky (almost as if you are a magician or jedi controlling the ball). Imagine you are in a photoshoot and you are posing for a photographer while in the trophy pose. The other thing I like to point out is how you show off your bicep while in the trophy position 😊😊
Once you are happy with shadow tossing, get a real ball and start tossing with the ball but without hitting the ball. Instead, catch the ball or let it drop. Once you are comfortable with that, start practising the entire motion πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½
Give yourself time and be patient while practising any new techniques. Practice, practice and practice as much as you can until you get the timing right. Once that happens, youll see a considerable amount of power in your serve πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

Coach Ishaan demonstrating forehands and backhands and the emphasis of using your legs and focusing on following the height of the ball. Note the importance of the launch off the pivot - watch how the backfoot comes forward with the front foot pivoting. This should be done by pure momentum after striking the ball 😊

Look at these little Divas go! Even after a two week hiatus due to rain, they got straight back into it from where they left off πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜Š

Yesterday was the first session Jasnam and I worked on the second part of her forehand technique. Before this, we were hitting the ball with our racket starting from the back and then hitting the ball. Yesterday, we levelled up because of how well she has been playing over the last few weeks (she's only had 3 sessions before this) πŸ˜±πŸ‘πŸ½
It's very important to make training and difficulty progressive. Sometimes when you make it too tricky and difficult from the beginning, your trainee may become disillusioned and form an adverse reaction to the sport. Make funny noises, compliment them as much as you can when they get things right. Sometimes, even I forget they're kids and not professional athletes so we've got to make it entertaining πŸ’πŸ˜

When it comes to training kids, I use a lot of cone drills and movement drills to keep them active. Most of the kids train with me one hour a week so in order to for them to get the most out of the session, I try to combine technique, movement, discipline and fun into the session. The first 45-50 minutes are usually focused on tennis and the last 10-15 mins are game focused or agility focused!

As a coach of any sort you try to positively influence your trainees & students. For me, it can be on and off court. Positive reinforcement while learning is extremely important, especially for children and it pays off in amazing ways most of the time 😊
Rahul has been training with me for a month and a bit. His mother sent me this photo of him the other day where he was imitating everything I do, from the way I walk in to the tennis court with my bag and basket of tennis balls right down to my accent too πŸ˜‚ He was using the training methods I use on him to coach his 4 year old sister at home 😁
