In the early years of building Swimwerks , we made an incredibly hard decision.
We decided to let go of our own students.
Looking back, I’m glad we made that decision.
In the early days, my business partner and I taught almost every class ourselves. We knew our students well, and many parents specifically signed up because they wanted us to be their child’s coach.
But we quickly realised something: if we kept holding on to every class ourselves, our swim school would never be a business. It would just be two guys with a full teaching schedule.
We couldn’t scale by staying in the water every single day. To grow, we had to free ourselves from coaching and let other coaches take over.
So we started hiring, and handed over our own students so our new coaches could build their classes.
It wasn’t easy.
Some parents stayed with us. Others left because they wanted to continue learning from us specifically, not whoever we assigned them.
Watching that happen was hard especially since we had spent many years building those relationships with the parents.
Still, we chose to give up short-term income for long-term growth.
Looking back, that decision allowed our coaches to grow, students to keep receiving quality coaching, and gave us the time to actually build the business instead of just running classes.
None of that would have been possible if we didn’t first build a team we trusted to carry it forward.
As we continue to grow, we’re always looking for passionate swim coaches and proficient swimmers who want to make an impact while building a meaningful side income.
If that sounds like you, feel free to drop me a message. We’d love to connect!
