Ashihara Karate in Singapore

Ashihara Karate in Singapore Enjoy Practical Karate with us! Contemporary Japanese martial art for the modern world.

ASHIHARA KARATE is a world-renowned karate system founded by the legendary karate exponent Hideyuki Ashihara. It is often dubbed "Fighting Karate" due to its emphasis on real-world self-defence applications that are based on scientific logic and practical strategies. Techniques in Ashihara Karate are typically simple, straightforward and directly-applicable from practice, preferring a non head-on approach and circular movements to overcome the opponent. The pleasure in studying Ashihara Karate lies in creating an enjoyable environment, where the weak and strong study together as equals, as they help each other advance step-by-step. We believe that only this way can Karate be enjoyed for a lifetime, with students continuously growing their bodies, minds and spirits. Ashihara Karate is the pursuit of personal development through fostering practical self-defence skills, while taking into account the realities of modern living. This is what makes Ashihara Karate truly a 'practical karate' to be enjoyed by all.

People do karate for a myriad of reasons.
And to some of us,
The weekly dose of Karate is needed to
Simply maintain our sanity. 💪🥋 👊

Congratulations to all participants and coaches for their Grading performance last Sat!
The real goal isn't the next belt color.
Rather, it's the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that flashed throughout the 3 hours of non-stop action,
That fuels you of where to go next.
Let's keep the challenging spirit alive.
OSU!
(Actually, the biggest achievement is to take a group post-event photo; we often forget!)

The second Grading of the year- DONE!
The event concluded with a commentary from Anthony-sensei, the founding teacher of our dojo.
While school had resumed for local students, our foreign participants remained in the summer holidays.
But in spite of the smaller numbers, it was a delightful sight to see them doing their best performing the various assessment components.
Let's keep the challenging spirit alive.
OSU!

A little sidestep gets you out of the line of fire.
And since you're making and advance,
Throw in some simple combinations for good measure!

There aren't many instances where violence is the answer.
When it is, it's the last resort to protect yourself from harm,
And to push yourself to grow stronger than you were.
And who's better to teach about violence to your child than you?

There are many different kinds of combative exchanges across different karate styles and martial arts.
In our Ashihara Karate practice,
There are generally kumite (sparring) and sabaki (fight control).
