𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀?

On 5 September 2026, we celebrated the achievements of our members' children at our annual SMOU Bursary & Scholarship Awards Presentation. We were honoured to welcome Brother Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Law, Singapore and the MSF Singapore, as our Guest-of-Honour.

In his welcome address, Brother Eric encouraged our young recipients to stay curious and resilient, while recognising the important role seafarers play in keeping Singapore connected to the world.

It was a proud moment as our recipients took to the stage to be recognised for their hard work and academic achievements. As we celebrate their accomplishments today, we look forward to seeing where their aspirations take them tomorrow.

Capt Anuj Velankar remembers getting two bars of soap a week and watching them become one of the most valuable things for him at sea. Meanwhile, Chin Woo gets two bars a month and leaves them untouched.

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

On 12 August 2026, our female seafarers gathered for an evening of conversations, shared experiences, and meaningful connections. Through a calligraphy workshop, words of strength and resilience were turned into messages of encouragement, with each participant gifting an artwork to a fellow seafarer.

A simple reminder that no one needs to navigate the maritime journey alone.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀.

Last Saturday, 22 August 2026, 128 of our members, families, tripartite partners, and maritime industry friends gathered for the 19th SMOU Annual Bowling Challenge.

From friendly rivalry on the lanes to meaningful conversations off them, the event was a wonderful reminder of the strong community spirit that keeps our maritime family connected.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁.

Yesterday, 20 August 2026, we partnered with NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) to bring an AI Discovery Masterclass to maritime companies, helping participants explore practical ways to apply AI in the workplace.

From identifying everyday challenges to developing meaningful AI use cases through the CHART framework, participants gained insights into how technology can support productivity, innovation, and better workplace outcomes.

Thank you to all the maritime companies that joined us and contributed to the discussions. As AI continues to transform the world of work, collaboration between companies, workers, and industry partners will be key to building a resilient and future-ready maritime sector.

Every time Sean Lin signs on for another voyage, he carries more than just his suitcase.

He carries stories passed down from a grandfather who sailed, a father who sailed, and a watch that connects those journeys to his own.

Today, Sean is charting a different course, one shaped by innovation, alternative fuels, and the push towards a more sustainable maritime industry. Yet with every mile sailed, he's reminded that while every generation writes its own story, some journeys remain connected by the sea.

Ahead of Singapore’s National Day, on 6 August 2026, we spent an evening with seafarers alongside The Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MtSS) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore - MPA at the MtSS Jurong Drop-in Centre, sharing local snacks, gifts and meaningful conversations.

It was a simple way to bring the National Day spirit to those whose work takes them far beyond our shores.

To all seafarers, thank you for all that you do. We are proud to stand alongside you, both at sea and ashore.

A teaser pic from the video shoot I did for the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU), of which I have the privilege of serving as an adviser.

This year is SMOU’s 75th anniversary.

Singapore is a maritime nation, and our nation’s lifeblood comes from the sea. SMOU has witnessed and supported the rise of our maritime hub and our nation over the past seven decades.

I am honoured to be part of this milestone in a small way.
