So the Jingle Pell™ was supposed to have been completed last Christmas, in time for the Season's Beatings, but my time was taken up with work and family, so here it is now, in March 2025.
You can add a small piece of sponge or pool noodle into the pipe before inserting the post, if you want a taller pell. Mine is around 160 cm with just the log.
I had the log planed with an octagonal cross section so the pipe would fit easier, but not cause the tube to rotate when hit.
I drilled a hole into the PVC cap as well, in case the log got stuck in it, so I could push it out with a broom handle. Thanks for the suggestion, G, and for letting me use your tools and space!
Note: If you want your Jingle Pell™ to actually jingle, you will need to add your own bells. Mine clinks occasionally, because I have secured my weights to the base using a chain.
My Jingle Pell™ was designed with storage in mind, so it is not the most sturdy or stable of pells, but it is holding up relatively well so far, thanks to the tape, though we did manage to put a few notches into it (more tape will help). I did intend for it to be ablative anyway, for the folks to train how to properly follow through in their strikes.
P.S. I hope y'all managed to fence your mistle-foe last Christmas! 🎄⚔️💥
