This December, I put my fitness and mindset to the test, riding from Singapore to Yunnan, China. It started with an 800+ km, 10-hour ride up to Hatyai, Thailand on Day 1, demanding endurance, focus, and mental discipline right from the start.
After pushing through Thailand and a tough stretch in Laos where broken roads turned 200 km into a 6-hour grind, the pace shifted once I entered the Mohan Border in south of China. Riding along the China National Highway G214 and G318, the journey became both demanding and rewarding, with stops through Pu'er, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La and Shaxi along the way just to name a few. Mileage was steadier, but the real challenge came from altitude, snow, black ice, and freezing mornings down to -6°C.
The highlight was going up to 4,680m at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on foot without the need of oxygen support, a humbling reminder that fitness goes beyond strength. It’s about preparation, patience, and the ability to stay calm and focused when conditions are uncomfortable.
Closing the year with new experiences, vivid memories, and one big bucket-list item checked off. Feeling truly grateful for the journey and everything it taught me, excited to see what 2026 has in store!
