5 Lessons I learned from being on the HometeamNS REAL RUN organising committee for the past 6 years.

1) The bigger the dream, the bigger your dream team.

Organizing a run for 40 people isn’t that difficult.

But organizing a run for 4,000 people is a whole different ballgame—you need a dream team.

Whatever the scale you’re currently operating on, always be on the lookout for talent in others.

You never know when you’ll need their expertise to help you reach your big, audacious goals.

2) Find people who are better than you in different ways.

Many members of my organizing committee have skills and insights that I don’t.

They can see things that I can’t.

Don’t be afraid if others are better than you.

In fact, celebrate that they bring skills you might need for future projects!

3) Develop a team of leaders.

With over 4,000 people to care for on race day, it was impossible for me to be everywhere at once.

Sometimes leaders want to be in control, but that isn’t always the best approach for large projects.

Empower others to lead different parts of the project.

On race day, we had support staff spread over 10 km of the race route.

To the volunteers I didn’t get to meet: a big thank you and heartfelt appreciation.

You braved the weather to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for the 2024 HometeamNS REAL RUN.

4) People may misunderstand you. Be okay with that.

As leaders, we aim to be as clear as possible in our communication, but sometimes we’ll still be misunderstood.

That’s part of leadership.

Our job is to make sure our messages are clear.

But we also need to know when to stop trying—sometimes people will mishear or misunderstand despite our best efforts.

5) Capture moments. (BTS)

This year, I started capturing more behind-the-scenes (BTS) moments.

People usually only see the official photos and videos, but there’s so much work that goes unnoticed in the background.

Capture those moments so you can reflect and reminisce after the event is over.

It has been a great honour to serve as Chairman of the HometeamNS REAL RUN and to be able to work with such a fantastic organizing committee & HometeamNS staff.

An unexpected turn in life...

A decade ago, I could not do a single push up, I had multiple chronic health issues and had problems that shouldn't happen to someone my age.

My health transformation took place in 2016/2017 and today I have a wonderful opportunity to work with a dozen other people to raise the standards of fitness in an organisation.

Sometimes I do wonder at the state I would be in right now had I not made any changes to my health & fitness.

Each day, we are writing our story.

If you don't like the story, you can re-write your health story, one page at a time.

It can be hard to imagine a complete transformation, but what might a 20% better / fitter / healthier version of you look like? That's easier to imagine.

Everyone has a story to tell, but not every story needs to be told.

It's a skill to decide which story to tell to be able to relate to your audience in the right way.

There are many ways to deliver a story, some are less boring while others could be more boring.

This reminds me that we are writing our health story every day with the choices we make. If you don't like your previous chapters, you have the freedom to write better ones.

Top Healthcare Voice.

Just received a notice from LinkedIn yesterday morning. Woohoo!

Celebrate with me!

Over the years, I've experienced various health issues and I've overcome them.

I used to have spine issues, acid reflux, high cholesterol, knee pains, joint aches, inability to exercise due to muscle spasms. headaches, pain in my eyes when exposed to bright lights (that don't seem to affect anyone else), frequently getting sick and having to the see the doctor every 4 weeks and so on...

I lost almost all of my fitness at my lowest point & I couldn't even do one push up!

I've managed to turn my health around and my greatest focus now is to help others to do the same.

Join me in my quest.

I brought a blender that wasn’t working and passed it to my dad.

An hour later after we finished lunch, he passed it back to me in working order.

Not only did he know what was wrong, he also had the parts to fix it.

He’s good at this, we all know it.

In many ways I’m like my dad, we love to find problems to fix.

Mine problems are a different kind, it’s health problems.

Unknowingly, in some way, I am like my dad.

Stagetime: Real Speaking Practice in Just 5 Minutes! 🎤

We're all students of Eric Feng, dedicated to honing our craft.

The best part is that we can't see what others see until they share it with us and we all had insightful takeaways after presenting our speech. These sessions provide a safe environment to test and practice different elements of a speech and to ask questions.

Each person focuses on one story, delivered in just 5 minutes. Mine was only 4mins at yesterday's event.

My full speech is about creating your own fitness breakthrough—a topic close to my heart. I do these events online multiple times each month and also in person, offering flexibility and convenience.

Upgrade Your Nutrition: 10 minutes Prep Overnight Oats

My Favorite Overnight Oats Recipe (with a Granola and Banana Twist!) 🍌

Ingredients:

½ cup rolled oats
½ cup unsweetened nut milk (almond, oat, etc.)
¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (optional, for extra protein)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup mashed banana
¼ cup granola (choose your favorite flavor!)
Fresh banana slices (for topping)

Instructions:

1) Combine all ingredients (except granola and banana slices) in a mason jar or airtight container.

2) Stir well, ensuring all ingredients are incorporated.

3) Refrigerate overnight, or for at least 6 hours.

4) In the morning, add granola and fresh banana slices for a satisfying crunch and extra flavor.
