Brompton Hinge Clamp

That little thing might help in preventing the hinge plate from moving around but if it causes the clamp to be unable to close tight, we will have an issue.

Best case scenario, hinge pin dented. However it's not cheap to replace the hinge pin. Worst case? Frame worn due to free play.

Background story.
This Brompton came in for essential servicing, we found some freeplay at the hinge clamp area upon tightening. Upon removing, the freeplay was no longer there.

This is quite a common 'error upgrade' that we found when Bromptons came in for servicing. Do take note also when 'upgrading' the hinge clamp. Make sure the clamp dimension is good.

Do ensure that the clamp is tight and no freeplay when cycling.

Eat Drink Play Joy

Owner dropped this CHPT3 off for Premium Servicing which includes the servicing of the wheelset hubs and headset.

Tyres were replaced to Schwalbe One Black. Added a Zenith Titanium rack for easier pushing while folded. 2 pairs of HH Ez wheels were added.

The suspension block was cracked and replaced with a Lightworks suspension block.

The Brompton hub gear indicator pin and the crankarm bolt was rusty and replaced. The front anti rotational spacer was also rusty and replaced with a titanium spacer from HH.

The original front Carrier block was also replaced with the latest version of HH DT Front Carrier Block. Chain was replaced with YBN chain. Original grips were peeling and changed to Ergon Grips.

Magicshine VTG Combo with Remote was installed as well.

Lastly, the owner decided to get a Metal Resident 5L front bag in black.

Job done. 😍

It was a very educational and informative session. As Coach Kenneth—affectionately known by his students as Coach K—says:
