Mountain-Tortoise

Mountain-Tortoise exploring life with disability Eugene was a passionate runner. Having ran cross country in his younger days, he was addicted to the high that running gave him.

He served his NS days as a Commando officer and took part in his first marathon. This sparked an addiction for distance. He decided to sign up for his first Ultramarathon, the Sundown 100km. The joy of completion led to him joining the North Face 100km Solo. He was one of the few finishers that year. Not long after, he was diagnosed with an impairing condition known as Hereditary Spastic Paraplegi

a. This took away his running dreams and left him begging for more. Purchasing a walker gave him the power to walk long distances, which could be a hope to bring him back to Ultras. This page serves as a journal for his endeavors to fight the condition towards a greater future. Kenneth was a Naval Diving Officer from the Naval Diving unit with a passion for mountain biking, multisport events and the great outdoors. He has completed many solo expeditions including a multi day Taiwan mountain biking expedition and a 4600km North South Australian motorbiking expedition. He has also been struck with the same condition as Eugene which took away his ability to run and race competitively in Adventure races. He is walking with the aim to increase awareness about Heriditary Spastic Paraplegia and for the disabled community.

Progress hits different when you never thought you’d be here.
Yesterday’s training ride was a personal milestone — my longest distance ever on a para bike.
25% more distance than last week
Average speed up from 16.1 → 17.6
Small numbers on paper, big meaning in real life.
Grateful to the safety cyclists and coaches for the guidance, patience, and belief. Every ride feels like proof that growth doesn’t stop — it just finds a new way forward.
Onwards. 🚴‍♂️💪

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. ❤️

To my wife — thank you for dedicating every single Saturday to get me to training, cheering me on, and supporting this crazy idea to take up sports again. None of this happens without you.

To the Para Cycling Federation — the real changemakers. Thank you for building a community where volunteers, caregivers and athletes feel seen, supported, and inspired. It’s an incredible environment to grow, try, and show up as we are.

To the coaching and support team — Coach Manaf, Mike, Eugene — thank you for believing in me long before I believed in myself. And Mr Ayub, who keeps the bike running perfectly every single ride… you are a legend.

I’ll keep training hard to become the best version of myself. The journey continues. 🚴‍♂️💪

14 years ago, I thought I had left sport behind.

After my disability, I genuinely believed that chapter had closed. The adrenaline, the camaraderie, the wind in my hair during a race—those felt like distant memories.

But joining the Para Cycling Federation of Singapore changed everything.

Over the past 6 months, I've reconnected with that part of myself. Not just as an athlete, but as someone who dares to dream again. I’ve raced. I’ve trained. I’ve grown. And most importantly—I’ve felt alive in ways I didn’t think possible.

This journey has been nothing short of transformative. It’s reminded me that nothing is forever—not hardship, not doubt, not fear. Even in challenge, you can find a way forward. You can create new futures.

Excited for what lies ahead as I work toward representing Singapore again—this time, from a different starting line.

Thank you to the community, the coaches, and everyone who has supported me.

(And yes—we’re raising funds at the DB Enable event to empower more para athletes like myself. Come support, or just come say hi.)

I’ve lost 20kg before—and gained it all back.
Not doing that dance again.

This time, I’m building for real.
Started para-cycling. Got a SkiErg—it’s my treadmill now.

20 mins every morning. 20 mins every night.
No excuses. Just consistency.

Not chasing a number.
Chasing the version of me I want to be proud of.

Hey everybody, I'll cycling to raise funds for Ambulance Wish Singapore. I'm looking to cycle to many of the locations like Singapore Zoo and Gardens By the Bay! Do click the link and donate generously for a good cause.

Ambulance Wish is a charity that grants wishes to terminally ill patients. This is a meaningful cause to me as it gives me the opportunity to give back and is a reminder that everyday is a present and we must cherish every moment we have together.

PS Stay tuned for more video updates on my cycling adventures.
