“What do you want for Christmas?”
How about an iSUP – an inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard? Stand Up Paddling is said to be the fastest growing sport across the world now – probably because it is a great way to be on the water as well as exercise your whole body and mind. I love it! Many people ask me if it is hard to do or if it takes a lot of balance, but if you learn the basics (takes only a few minutes) of where and how to stand on the board, where to focus your eyes, and how to paddle, anyone can do it.
If you don't live on the water, an inflatable board is an excellent option. You only need 5-10 minutes to blow it up with a hand pump and snap the fin on and put the paddle together and then you are ready to go. Everything you need fits into the backpack (pump, paddle, fin, extra gear) so you can easily take it anywhere in your car, your sailboat, or on the bus. And you can leave it inflated until the next time you use it if you have a place to store it.
You can paddle just about anywhere or anytime. Of course it is wonderful in warm and sunny weather, but I also paddle through the winter – as long as there is no ice on the water and I have the right gear (wet/drysuit, waterproof shoes, gloves, lifevest). And the Von Orange iSUP 6” is perfect for colder waters. Since it is a thick and stable board, you don't get your feet wet nor do you fall in if the wind and waves pick up unexpectedly.
In addition to paddling on any kind of water, SUP is often combined with yoga, and it is a great way to explore new locations either at home or abroad. How about a trip through the Stockholm archipelago or the waters where you moor your sailboat, a yoga/meditation/SUP trip in Portugal in May 2015, or the chance to explore the Amazon in 2016?
