Kegums MXGP Race Report
The JWR Honda MX TEAM Sweden riders put in a strong performance at the MXGP of Latvia in Kegums. It is never easy to step into the MXGP World Championship paddock and compete against riders who race at Grand Prix level every weekend, but both Filip and Hugo rose to the challenge and gained valuable experience throughout the event.
Saturday's conditions were demanding, with high temperatures and a rough, technical track creating a tough challenge for both riders and machinery.
MX2
Hugo achieved a significant milestone this weekend by scoring his first-ever GP points, marking an important moment in his career and a reward for all the hard work put in by both Hugo and the team.
Throughout the weekend, Hugo continued to improve every time he went on track. Racing against some of the best young riders in the world provided valuable experience, and he showed great determination, speed, and maturity in challenging conditions. He was able to battle consistently with established GP riders, gaining confidence and learning important lessons about race pace, racecraft, and managing the intensity of Grand Prix competition.
In both motos, Hugo demonstrated strong fighting spirit, staying focused under pressure and pushing hard from start to finish. His P14 finishes in both races earned him his first GP points and highlighted the progress he has been making throughout the season. More importantly, the results reflected his growing ability to compete at this level and maintain a competitive pace over the full race distance.
The weekend was another positive step forward in Hugo's development. Scoring points at the Grand Prix level is an important achievement, but the experience gained from racing wheel-to-wheel with top riders may prove even more valuable in the long term. The confidence and knowledge taken from this event will help build a strong foundation as he continues to develop and work toward even stronger results in the future.
MXGP
The MXGP class is one of the toughest championships in the world, featuring multiple world champions and factory riders throughout the field. The level of competition is incredibly high, making every position hard-earned.
In Race 1, Filip suffered a setback after going wide in the first corner and losing valuable positions early on. Despite fighting hard to recover, a technical issue developed around the halfway point of the race, forcing him to retire before the finish.
Race 2 told a different story. Filip got away to a much stronger start and immediately found a better rhythm. He rode a solid and consistent moto, holding P19 for much of the race while battling against experienced Grand Prix riders. Late in the moto he was passed by Ruben Fernandez, but Filip continued to push all the way to the chequered flag and secured P20, earning his first-ever MXGP World Championship point.
Scoring points in the premier class is never easy, and Filip can be pleased with both the result and the experience gained throughout the weekend. Competing against the world's best riders will be an important step in his continued development.
Summary
The team delivered several strong performances throughout the weekend and leaves Kegums with valuable MXGP World Championship points in both classes. The riders gained important experience, showed competitive speed, and continued to build confidence at the highest level of motocross competition.
