Göran Kropp inspired a generation of outdoor adventurers.
One of his most ambitious ideas was to bike from Stockholm, Sweden, to Mount Everest and climb it. To most, this was a crazy idea, but we believed in this enthusiastic adventurer and backed him.
In October 1995, Kropp left Stockholm on a specially designed bicycle, carrying 108 kilos of gear and food. In his pack was a Primus MultiFuel stove, which would be put to the ultimate test.
After cycling more than 13,000 kilometres to Everest Base Camp, he made his first summit attempt on 3 May, turning back just 100 metres from the top.
After weathering the 1996 Everest disaster, he made a second attempt. On 23 May, he reached the summit of Mount Everest without oxygen.
