World Cup, European Championship and Sicily Trophy 2026 – A Celebration of Dance in Sicily
On 7 June 2026, the elegant Marriott Hotel in Sicily, beautifully located by the Mediterranean Sea, hosted one of the most prestigious dance events of the year – the World Cup, European Championship and Sicily Trophy, organized by Mr. Alfredo Sgroi and the International Dance Sport Association (IDSA).
The event welcomed thousands of dancers from 17 countries, creating an inspiring international atmosphere filled with talent, passion, and sportsmanship. Competitors participated in both Standard Ballroom and Latin American Dancing, representing a wide range of categories including Couples, Solo, ProAm, and American Smooth.
Among the distinguished participants were professional couples from around the world, including Edmond Zhao and Carmen Chiui from Hong Kong, as well as outstanding dancers representing Ukraine, Israel, Sweden, Italy, and many other nations. Their performances showcased the exceptional quality and diversity of international dance sport.
The championship brought together dancers of all ages and levels, offering an exceptional opportunity to compete on a world-class stage. The beautiful seaside venue provided a spectacular setting for unforgettable performances and cultural exchange among participants from across Europe, Asia, and beyond.
A distinguished international panel of judges ensured the highest standards of fairness and professionalism throughout the competition. Their expertise and dedication contributed significantly to the success of the event.
Nordic Dance Sport Center with Diana Berg from Sweden proudly participated in the championships and would like to express sincere appreciation to Mr. Alfredo Sgroi, IDSA, the judges, officials, volunteers, and all competing dancers for their warm hospitality, excellent cooperation, and outstanding organization.

PRESS RELEASE. 100 Years of the Blackpool Dance Festival organized by Natalie Hayes and Nick Miles with the team.

The year 2026 marks an extraordinary milestone in the world of ballroom dancing — the 100th anniversary of the Blackpool Dance Festival, the most prestigious and historic ballroom competition in the world. Held at the iconic Winter Gardens Blackpool, the festival continues to attract dancers, teachers, adjudicators, and spectators from every corner of the globe.
On May 16–17, Swedish dance trainer Diana Berg and her student Nils Madej proudly represented Nordic Dance Sport Center during the events held in the famous Empress Ballroom and Winter Gardens venue. For Nils, this was a very special occasion — his first participation at Blackpool, a dream destination for ballroom dancers worldwide. The Blackpool Dance Festival is renowned for its elegance, tradition, and unmatched level of competition in both Standard Ballroom and Latin American dancing. Couples travel from countries such as the United States, Sweden, Poland, Italy, China, Estonia, Japan and many others to compete on the legendary dance floor where generations of champions have performed.
Diana Berg and Nils Madej participated in both the Standard and Latin styles, competing in the categories:
ProAm — a competitive format where a professional teacher dances together with an amateur student. This category has grown enormously worldwide because it allows students of all ages and experience levels to train and compete with top professionals.
TeacherStudent — another popular format emphasizing partnership, performance quality, and technical development between coach and student.
For Nils Madej, dancing at Blackpool was not only a competition experience, but also an opportunity to grow artistically and technically while sharing the floor with dancers from across the international ballroom community. The atmosphere during the festival was truly international. Competitors represented renowned dance schools and clubs from around the world, including:
Sweden — Nordic Dance Sport Center
Poland — AirDance and Dansinn by Malitowski
Italy — Mabo Dance Lab
United States — including couples traveling from California
The festival created a unique meeting place where tradition, passion, discipline, and international friendship came together through dance.
Celebrating 100 years of Blackpool also reminds the dance world of the festival’s extraordinary cultural significance. Since its beginnings in 1925, the event has shaped the standards of ballroom and Latin dance globally, inspiring generations of dancers and teachers.
For Diana Berg and Nils Madej, participating in this centennial edition was both an honor and a memorable achievement — a moment combining hard work, elegance, international competition, and the magic of dancing on one of the world’s most legendary floors.
