Midsummer Match Cup canceled 2021 due to pandemic conditions!
MMC was arranged for the first time in 2019 in Skärhamn on Tjörn with nice weather, world elite in sailing and a large audience on site.
Unfortunately, we are forced to cancel the 2021 event due to the pandemic, as we also had to do in 2020.
- What is gratifying and what drives us to work forward, is the great support from partners, spectators and the many committed volonteers. But it is simply not possible in a responsible way, carry out this kind of event during current circumstances, announces Johnie Berntsson, initiator and acting project manager for the event.
2021 event
The work of preparing for the 2021 event was resumed in the autumn of 2020. A project group has worked to secure funding and support from potential partners.
Our focus has been to build the event with a more volunteer-based organization, and with more partners and simpler cost-effective solutions in certain areas, such as event area, choice of competition boat etc.
The support from the partners we have is gratifying and engaging in an event of this kind. However, the pandemic means that some of them do not have the opportunity to contribute financially to building the event to the extent we would like.
The project management has therefore now decided to cancel the 2021 Midsummer Match Cup.
The work done during the past year provides a good starting point for preparing for a good event in 2022, says Mats Andersson, Sports Project Manager and chairman of Tjörn's sailing club.
