I 2027 får Finnmarksløpet en ny klasse: FL-300 🐾

Et 300 km langt 8-spannløp, utviklet med mål om å senke terskelen for å ta steget inn i Finnmarksløpet, og samtidig bevare den ekte og rå arktiske naturopplevelsen som Finnmarksvidda har å by på.

Den nye klassen vil gå via sjekkpunktene i Jotka, Jergul, Karasjok og tilbake til Jotka før målgang i Alta.

Exciting news!

In 2027, Finnmarksløpet will introduce a new class: FL-300 🐾

A 300 km race with up to eight dogs, developed with the aim of lowering the threshold for taking part in Finnmarksløpet, while at the same time preserving the authentic and raw Arctic nature experience that Finnmarksvidda has to offer.

The new class will pass through the checkpoints in Jotka, Jergul, Karasjok and back to Jotka before finishing in Alta.

More information about registration, qualification and regulations will be announced during summer and autumn!

We look forward to March 2027 and the start of the very first FL-300 🩵

We took some time before writing this post to make sure we had enough perspective.

Our dogs are normally fed Breedna Energy+ all year round because of the premium quality and because it suits their needs well. Our Alaskans and Eurohounds are obviously extremely active during autumn and winter. In summer, they still work: 1.5 to 2 hours on the dogwalker, 5 times a week.

Last winter, Marta suggested we try a range positioned between Premium and Energy+, the Energy Extreme (32% protein / 22% fat – around 3600 kcal/kg). To be honest, we were a bit hesitant about moving to a lower range, but considering the feeding budget, we thought it was worth trying this summer.

It has now been around a month.

We’re sharing this with a factual mindset, not a commercial one.

Our observations:

✅ No increase in p**p volume (and with 30 Alaskans, one p**p scoop a day is something we appreciate 😅)
✅ No weight loss while feeding the same quantity as Energy+
✅ Great digestibility — although this wasn’t surprising, as we’ve never needed transition periods between Breedna ranges
✅ Very good palatability — honestly, no surprise there either

Overall, we’ve been pleasantly surprised.

So for Breedna users: Energy Extreme is definitely worth considering, especially during less intensive periods.

And for those who usually switch to cheaper kibble during summer: compare prices based on nutritional value and feeding quantity, not just the bag price. Paying less but needing larger portions or dealing with twice as much waste isn’t always saving money.

For once, getting a positive surprise on the food budget without seeing any downside on the dogs… we’ll take it 😊

Amundsen Race to Host World Sleddog Association Long Distance World Championship in 2027

The organizing committee of the Amundsen Race (AR) and the World Sleddog Association (WSA) are delighted to announce that in 2027, AR 250 will serve as the WSA’s Long Distance World Championship for purebred sled dogs.

Starting in Strömsund, Sweden, the Amundsen Race is widely respected for its demanding course and remote wilderness setting. The event challenges mushers and their dog teams with extended distances, variable terrain, and the unpredictable conditions of the Scandinavian winter.

“We are very excited to be hosting the WSA Long Distance World Championship in 2027,” said Edmond Schoemacher, Race Director of the Amundsen Race. “That the WSA entrusts us with their long-distance world championship reflects the dedication of our team, volunteers, and community, and the quality of the race we have built over the years. We look forward to welcoming the best mushers and their purebred teams to Strömsund in 2027.”

The World Sleddog Association, the international governing body for purebred sled dog racing, selected the Amundsen Race for its proven ability to deliver a challenging and well-organized long-distance competition.

“The Amundsen Race represents everything that defines world-class long-distance mushing,” said Arno Steichler, chairman of the WSA. “Its course, organization, and commitment to the welfare of the dogs make it an ideal host for our 2027 Long-Distance World Championship.”

World championship titles will be available in the following classes: AR 250 - 8 dog class RNB1, AR 250 - 12 dog class RNB1, AR250 - 8 dog class RNB2, AR250 - 12 dog class RNB2. The Amundsen Race will take place from 25 to 28 February 2027 with registrations opening on 4 October 2026.

Further information regarding the race, qualification criteria, and registration will be announced in due course.
