🚀 The Rainforest Ultra is gaining momentum!

Over the last few weeks, I have had meetings with several departments of the local government in Santarém, representatives of the Santarém Fire Department (Bombeiros), and continue to work closely with the fantastic team at ICMBio. We are now moving deeper into the planning process and dealing with many of the logistical details that will make this adventure possible.

Next week, we will meet with representatives of all the communities and indigenous villages along the route. Every week, the excitement grows a little more, and the project is becoming increasingly real.

For 2026, most – if not all – participants are likely to come from Brazil, and that is absolutely fantastic. One of the goals of the Rainforest Ultra is to create opportunities for athletes from the RESEX Tapajós-Arapiuns, the FLONA Tapajós, and the wider region to participate in a world-class adventure close to home.

At the same time, I would love to see a few adventurous international runners join us for this first edition. Not only would it create a wonderful mix of people and cultures, but it would also help us understand how the trail and the overall experience are perceived by athletes who have never visited the Amazon before.

To encourage international participation, we have reduced our entry fees for the inaugural edition:

🌴 100 km Rainforest Ultra – EUR 1,950
🌴 200 km Rainforest Ultra – EUR 2,450

(Valid for registrations completed by June 30.)

Athletes entering the 100 km race also have the option of staying on as guests until the conclusion of the 200 km event, allowing them to experience more of the Amazon and the unique atmosphere of the race.

We can also offer a companion program for friends and family members who would like to join the adventure. The cost is the same as the athlete entry fee and includes the full experience of travelling through this extraordinary part of the Amazon.

The Rainforest Ultra is about much more than a race. Together with local communities and ICMBio, we are creating approximately 200 km of permanently marked trails that we hope will become a long-term attraction for hikers, nature lovers, and adventure travellers from around the world.

The Google Map of the Rainforest Ultra 2026 has just been updated. It now includes the first three days and also a bit of a change for the last three days.

The map will give you an idea of how much running will be in the jungle, more open areas and along beaches. It will be amazing!

From today, any athletes wanting to sign up, don't have to print files and then worry about sending these by email or postal service. Entry is now fully online. The link below takes you right to the forms.

The only exception are participants living in the municipalities of Santarém and Aveiro. We will have a separate link for you soon.

Entry fees will go up after the end of April!

After the Yukon Arctic Ultra it was immediately time to travel to Sweden for the 5th edition of the Bright Equipment Lapland Arctic Ultra. We had a record race roster and an absolutely great adventure! Below some impressions from our race photographer Jonas Palsson.

Now it's time to focus on the Rainforest Ultra and the Bhutan Ultra. The goal is to find enough athletes to kick off both races later this year. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to reach out! WE NEED YOU!

Back in Sweden and sitting just south of the Arctic Circle, I already find myself dreaming of our very first Rainforest Ultra 🌿🔥

We are making our way downstream - with the Rainforest Ultra trails being on the beach, right next to it and in the jungle - the occasional creek crossing in between. It is amazing!

Unfortunately, the inaugural edition of the Rainforest Ultra will need to be postponed from 2025 to 2026. The main reason is simple: I haven’t had enough athletes sign up to make the event viable.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why. Most likely, I haven’t reached a wide enough audience. I probably made the mistake of assuming that social media and some advertising would be enough – after all, that approach was successful when I launched a new winter ultra in Sweden four years ago. But perhaps that worked because it was a winter race, and after over 20 years organizing the Yukon Arctic Ultra, that’s what most people associate me with.

Of course, the current global political climate and economic uncertainty aren’t helping. And maybe the Amazon rainforest, with all its intensity and challenge, feels a bit too daunting for some.

That said, a “DNF” as an organizer isn’t the end of the road. It just means I have to learn, adapt, and push forward. To give the Rainforest Ultra the focus it deserves, I’ve decided to quit my job as a sales consultant and I will close my online shop, Racelite.de, on June 15th. This will allow me to dedicate more time to promoting the Rainforest Ultra and connecting with the ultra running community.

If you were planning to sign up this year but were waiting to see how things developed, please reach out. Your feedback is incredibly valuable. And to those who are interested but unsure, I’d love to hear from you as well – whether it’s concerns about the jungle environment, travel logistics, entry costs, or anything else. The more I understand what’s on your mind, the better I can make the Rainforest Ultra a success in 2026.
