Protokol hangboards

Protokol hangboards Wooden hangboard/fingerboard to train your finger strength for climbing. Made in Rwanda together with a Kigali based carpenter cooperative and FabLab Kigali. 1.

How it is made

The timber is selected and bought by the carpenters cooperative COMEJOGA (Coöperative des Menusiers Joyeux de Gakinjiro). After the wood is cut and smoothed at the right dimensions, the piece goes to FabLab Kigali. The pockets are precisely cut out by the ShopBot machine at FabLab Kigali and the PROTOKOL logo is laserprinted on the front. Afterwards, the piece goes back to COMEJOGA

, where they cut out the warm-up jugs and the slopes, since this is not possible with the ShopBot. After smoothing the hangboard is finished and ready for transport.


2. A fair price for all stakeholders

All stakeholders earn a fair share in the production process for there efforts. The timber is bought by COMEJOGA and is legally shopped. Unfortunately, they do not have an official label to prove this, therefore, €1 of every piece sold goes to a local reforestation program.. The wage per hour for the carpenter is more than double the national average hourly wage. Moreover, FabLab Kigali's share will contribute for their development after the first successful start-up year. Lastly, all taxes are correctly payed in the country of origin and in the country of destination.

Het kickstarter project werkt als volgt: Als op 25 mei minstens €2200 opgehaald is gaat het project door. De betaling gaat effectief van je credit kaart af en je hangboard wordt geleverd in Juli. Als op 25 mei minder dan €2200 is opgehaald dan gaat het project niet door, je betaalt niets, maar je krijgt ook geen hangboard.
