Hey guys,
We had a great response to our Russia camp announcement and have over 20 people interested so far! We have a couple of FS teams in the mix and then a great mix of individuals who are looking to increase their FS and Freefly skills. Amy Kirtland will be handling all the FS stuff with me assisting if necessary so if you want to do a 2-on-2 camp or need a 4th to fill a 4 way then get in touch and we can make it work. It might also be a good opportunity to grab some like minded campers and maybe get some 2-way and 4-way teams together for SA Nationals in April/May :-)
Alex will be doing the freeflying stuff so if you want to get inverted then this is the camp for you. I'll cover back flying, transitions, sit flying, slow speed dynamic, high speed dynamic, VFS, static head down, a little bit of freestyle if that's your thing and everything else in-between. I'll be fresh out of the 2019 US Indoor Nationals and have a heavy training plan leading up to that so even if you're a ninja and you want to learn or just fly some competition dynamic then let's do that!
Some specific details are as follows:
Dates: 1st Week of February 2019 (2 Feb - 9 Feb)
Cost: R6250 per hour (early bird rate)
Coaches: Alex Jordaan & Amy Kirtland (SAVOLO)
Location: Moscow, Russia
This is a brand new tunnel in Moscow that is much closer to the city than the tunnel we visited in December last year. This means that we can stay in the city and commute to the tunnel easily either via Uber which is cheap over there, or we can take the subway and then a 15 minute walk from the station to the tunnel. There is a hotel as well as hostel type accommodation at the tunnel for very cheap if we want to do that also. We will do our best to book tunnel flight times that are convenient so that we can have leisurely starts and have plenty of time for sightseeing and group trips etc.
The reason we decided to go to Russia again (this is our third different tunnel in Russia that we are visiting) is because we don't need a visa to visit, the currency is kinder to us and overall the costs of the trip are more affordable than some of the other European, American and Asian locations. If this was not a new tunnel we would likely not have visited Russia again but the location, price and convenience of this specific location makes sense for us to give it a visit.
The tunnel itself is built by Tunnel Technologies which is the same equipment used in the FlyStation tunnels in Munich and Moscow (see the pictures below). It's a 14ft, state of the art recirculating tunnel and will be a pleasure to fly in. The tunnel is currently open to skydivers although they have not yet had their official launch and parts of the supporting building and restaurant are still under construction. Our Feb camp date is perfect to ensure that everything is completed and all their teething problems are ironed out. There is also an indoor surfing wave in the same facility so we can do some surf sessions to break up the flying.
We will have a form out in the next couple of days where you can indicate how many hours you want to fly and what type of flying you want to do and then we will start collecting money or taking deposits or at least getting firm commitments so that we can purchase and reserve the time.
PM with any questions you might have!
