One of the greatest mistakes we make is taking things for granted.
We forget, or perhaps never fully understand, that nothing truly belongs to us. Absolutely nothing.
Our health, our possessions, our friends, our family, our children, our sight, an ordinary day, even this life itself — all of it has been temporarily given to us, and sooner or later, sometimes much sooner than we expect, it will all have to be returned.
So of course we enjoy it and appreciate it while it is here, but we should never take any of it for granted.
But this is exactly what we do.
We forget. We live as if everything will last forever, and when life changes — as life always does — we suffer, resist, and complain.
Perhaps wisdom begins with remembering, truly remembering, that everything is temporary, and loving it even more because of that.
[everything is temporary, life wisdom, gratitude, appreciate what is, inner peace, life is a gift]
