The back and side of the shoulder is a common place for pain and overload in the bow shoulder.
Stress can accumulate here during the draw and while at full draw. If it’s beyond what the archer can handle, irritation and sensitivity will develop.
The rotator cuff works to stabilize the ball in the socket, and along with the deltoid, both support the weight of the bow + withstand the varying forces throughout the shot.
Completely dependent on the archer, 1 or a combination of the following pieces play a role in the solution to an issue in the bow shoulder:
1. Fixing alignment
2. Correcting bow shoulder position during the draw AND at full draw
3. Reloading and strengthening the effected muscles
4. Stabilizing and bracing the shoulder blade
5. Utilizing soft tissue techniques and other therapies on the shoulder
6. Lowering and rebuilding poundage and arrow volume
