7 Things You Are Totally Allowed To Do In My Yoga Classes

1. Sit down at any time

2. Skip poses. If I’m leading you somewhere your body says ‘not today Satan’ at, absolutely skip it. Or tell me I’ve lost the plot.

3. Modify EVERYTHING. Yes. Please. If I forget to cue a prop you would like to use, absolutely grab it.

4. Rest early. Do you really just need to chill out for an hour? Cool. I’ll see if I have one of my lavender eye masks in my bag.

5. Laugh. Creaks, pops, t***s, tottles ... bodies can be hilarious

6. Feel awkward. It’s ok. It really is.

7. Come back anyways.

I used to ignore this question completely.

Turns out, this one small pause changed how I practiced—and how I treated my body off the mat.

5 Yoga Myths I Wish Beginners Would Stop Believing

1. I need to be flexible first

2. Yoga has to be hard to work

3. Thin people are just better at yoga

4. Resting is lazy

5. Modifications mean failure

Ummm ... no. None of that. You do not have to be flexible, in whatever you think peak shape looks like, stick thin, or 20 to have a killer yoga practice. All you have to do is show up. For yourself. Whatever that means today - whether that’s a super sweaty class, an hour of savasana, or finding joy in movement. Yoga is a buffet with many dishes ... best yet: it’s open to all.

Yoga is not supposed to hurt your wrists, knees, back, neck just because everyone else is doing it.

Modification isn’t cheating.
