Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar Takes On the World

From Doha to Hualien, Taiwan, Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar proudly carried the Qatar flag to the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) 2026, held at Liyu Lake from August 29 to September 6.

With teams travelling thousands of kilometres from across the world to compete in Hualien, simply making the journey was already an achievement. For Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar, the championship became a six-day test of determination, teamwork and resilience.

Along the way, the team achieved personal records and continued pushing themselves against some of the world's strongest club crews.

The official results record Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar competing across 500m, 200m and 2,000m events, including heats, repechages and finals.

Beyond the times and race numbers, the championship was about resilience. Travel, health challenges and the physical demands of six consecutive days of racing tested the team, but Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar continued to show up and give everything they had.

The championship opened with a spectacular celebration under the theme “One World, One Boat: Hualien Paddles with the World.” Teams paraded through Hualien City alongside dragon and lion dancers, war drums and cultural performances representing different parts of the world. The evening continued with the official opening ceremony, traditional dragon eye-dotting ceremony, light and projection technology, and live performances.

For the athletes who had travelled thousands of kilometres to be there, seeing so many nations come together in one place was a powerful reminder of what the sport represents beyond competition.

Six days later, the championships came to an emotional close.

The September 6 closing ceremony included the formal championship flag handover, symbolising the continuation of the CCWC journey toward the 2028 host nation, Spain. The ceremony also featured performances built around the theme “Traditional Heritage meets Contemporary Innovation.”

IDBF President Claudio Schermi described the week through three words: harmony, energy and success, while highlighting the friendships and shared memories created throughout the championships.

For Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar, Hualien was more than another international race. It was an opportunity to measure themselves against the world, break personal records, overcome adversity and represent Qatar on an international stage.

Thousands of kilometres travelled. Six days of racing. Countless strokes. Personal records broken. Challenges overcome.

Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar — resilient from the first stroke to the last.

Against the Tide, Together

The 2026 Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, held on 27–28 June at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, was more than a race for Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar—it was a testament to resilience, unity, and commitment.

Despite the uncertainty and travel disruptions caused by the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict, our team remained determined. Every paddler honored their commitment, proving that adversity only strengthens those who choose to move forward together.

Built on diversity, our crew represents different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, united by one goal. That spirit carried us to the Semi-Finals of both the International Open and International Mixed categories, a remarkable achievement against some of the world's strongest dragon boat teams.

Our sincere thanks go to President Ben Gaskell, VP External Affairs Jeffrey Tacuban, and VP Internal Affairs Nazar Salim, whose unwavering leadership kept the team together and ensured every detail was taken care of. Their dedication kept morale high despite the challenges.

To Coach Alexander Tubar, thank you for continuously raising our standards by exposing us to world-class competition and teaching us that dragon boating is about more than racing—it's about building friendships and strengthening the global paddling community.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Lalaine Advincula, whose exceptional work as Team Manager handled countless logistics, allowing the paddlers and officers to focus solely on performing their best.

To our drummer, Ms. Veronica Lalata, thank you for always answering the call. No matter how last-minute, you continually made time for the team, keeping us united in rhythm and spirit.

To Mr. Christopher Odukwe, thank you for supporting us as our team photographer. While we were focused on racing, you captured the moments we couldn't, preserving memories that will inspire us for years to come.

Finally, to every paddler who committed to this journey: your sacrifices earned far more than race results. You gained invaluable experience, lifelong friendships, and a deeper appreciation of the global dragon boat community.
