Qatar is set to host the FIFA U-17 World Cup October-November this year, further showcasing the country's position as a hub for global sporting events.⁠
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the tournament's date on his social media on Saturday, where he noted that "Qatar will once again show to the world its great ability to host spectacular football competitions".⁠
Qatar hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025, which was the first to take place in a 48-team format. The tournament saw Portugal lift its trophy following their victory over Austria.

The Doha Corniche will be closed from Thursday evening to Friday afternoon for the Doha Marathon by Ooredoo 2026, the Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday.⁠
The closure will begin Thursday, January 15, at 10:00pm and will end on Friday, January 16, at 2:00pm. The ministry requested that motorists take alternative routes and follow directional signs.

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney will make his first official visit to Qatar on Sunday. He is expected to meet Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as business leaders and investors, to strengthen ties between Doha and Ottawa.⁠
Ahead of the visit, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, met officials from the Qatar Investment Authority to discuss trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
