Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Every repetition teaches your body something. If you repeat a technique without paying attention to your stance, balance, breathing, timing, or intent, you’re not just practicing the technique—you’re practicing the mistake.

That’s why discipline isn’t simply showing up and doing more repetitions. True discipline includes slowing down, reflecting, accepting correction, and making each repetition better than the last.

Improvement comes from purposeful practice, not just more practice.

Another successful belt test in the books!

Today, seven Martial Arts Revelation students stepped onto the testing floor to demonstrate the hard work, discipline, and perseverance they’ve developed over the past several months.

A belt test is about much more than earning a new belt. It’s an opportunity to perform under pressure, overcome nerves, and prove to yourself that your preparation has paid off.

I couldn’t be more proud of each student. They represented Martial Arts Revelation with focus, respect, and determination from beginning to end.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took time out of their weekend to support our students. Whether you helped evaluate, encouraged from the sidelines, or simply showed up to cheer them on, your support helped make today a memorable experience.

Today’s test also happened to fall on the one-year anniversary of reopening Martial Arts Revelation. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than watching our students challenge themselves, grow in confidence, and take another step forward in their Tang Soo Do journey.

Congratulations to everyone who tested today. You earned every stripe and every new belt through your hard work and dedication.

Now it’s time to get back to training. The next goal starts today.

Tomorrow marks one year since Martial Arts Revelation reopened its doors.

Looking back, I’m reminded that no martial arts school is built alone. This first year has reminded me why I love teaching and just how many people have shaped my journey.

To Master DeBaca and the incredible Black Belts at Fitness Fanatics - thank you for providing the foundation that shaped me as both a martial artist and an instructor.

To Sophia Miridakis and everyone at Eagle After School Martial Arts - thank you for teaching me how to navigate difficult business decisions and persevere through challenges. More importantly, thank you for showing me what it looks like to lead with generosity and purpose. The opportunities you created for low-income children and families through your nonprofit school continue to inspire the way I want to serve my own community.

To Brett Livingstone and the entire Anytime Fitness Larkfield family - thank you for opening your doors to me during an important chapter of my journey. You gave me the opportunity and the space to grow as an instructor and begin shaping my own vision. Looking back, I have a deep appreciation for the role you all played in helping Martial Arts Revelation become what it is today.

To Master Ohlson - thank you for your wisdom, mentorship, patience, and encouragement. You’ve helped me refine everything I’ve learned into the school Martial Arts Revelation is becoming.

Thank you to the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and their incredible staff for welcoming us this past year. It has truly been an honor to call the LBC our home.

Finally, thank you to every student and parent who has placed their trust in me. Watching each of you grow has been the greatest reward of this first year.

Tomorrow we’ll celebrate our anniversary by watching seven students earn the opportunity to advance to their next rank.

This milestone belongs to everyone who believed in me and in Martial Arts Revelation.

This photo captures the opening moments of my sword form at the 2026 WTSDA World Championships.

Going into the event, this was the division I was most nervous about. It was only my second time competing with the sword, and I knew I’d be sharing the ring with some incredibly talented competitors from around the world.

Ironically, this photo was taken during the opening sequence of my form. Those first few movements gave me a chance to settle in, quiet the nerves, and remind myself to trust the work I had put in. Once that happened, everything changed. I stopped worrying about the outcome and started asserting myself with every technique.

The months of training with a weighted practice sword paid off. The sword felt lighter, my movements felt more confident, and I was able to perform the form the way I knew I was capable of.

In the end, weapons became my strongest event, earning a second-place finish.

What I’ll remember most, though, isn’t the medal. It’s the caliber of the competitors I had the privilege to share the ring with. Their intensity, precision, and passion challenged me to raise my own standard. That’s one of the greatest gifts of competition—you don’t just measure yourself against others, you leave inspired to become better than you were before.

The journey continues.

There are moments that are difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced them yourself.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with nearly 1,800 Tang Soo Do practitioners from 17 countries is one of those moments.

The sound of every Ki Hap echoing through the convention center. The precision. The discipline. The respect. The shared purpose. For a few minutes, you realize you’re part of something much larger than your own school, your own region, or even your own country.

It’s easy to get caught up in medals and rankings at a World Championship, but moments like this remind me what it’s is really about.

A worldwide family brought together by a common art and a common set of values.

I’m incredibly grateful to be a small part of it, and I left Chicago inspired—not only to continue improving as a martial artist, but to bring that energy, knowledge, and sense of community back home to my students at Martial Arts Revelation.

One of the highlights of my time in Chicago was attending the instructor development and business seminars.

There is something incredibly motivating about being in a room with people who have dedicated decades to studying, teaching, and growing Tang Soo Do. Their passion for the art, their students, and the future of our Association was evident in every conversation and every lesson.

I left with pages of notes, new drills to incorporate into class, fresh ideas for growing Martial Arts Revelation, and several principles that challenged me to think differently—not just as an instructor, but as a leader.

One thing I appreciate about Tang Soo Do is that no matter how long you’ve been training, there is always another perspective to consider, another teaching method to refine, and another opportunity to improve.

Thank you to the Masters and senior leaders who invested their time and experience into all of us. I’m looking forward to implementing what I learned, expanding on many of the drills we practiced, and continuing to grow as both a martial artist and an instructor.

The journey continues.

Some of the greatest lessons in martial arts come from the matches you don’t win.

This was one of those moments.

I had the opportunity to compete against an outstanding martial artist from Argentina at the WTSDA World Championships. He went on to win first place in our division, and while my tournament ended on this match, I walked away with something much more valuable than another medal.

Competing against talented practitioners from around the world reminds me how much there is still to learn. Every opponent brings a different style, a different perspective, and another opportunity to improve.

One of the things I love most about Tang Soo Do is that losing isn’t the opposite of success—it’s part of the journey toward it.

I’ll go home, study the match, improve, and come back better.

Most importantly, I’ll bring those lessons back to my students. Every experience I have—whether it’s a victory or a setback—helps me become a better instructor. My hope is that by sharing both my successes and my failures, my students can grow even faster than I did.

Congratulations to my opponent from Argentina on a well-earned championship. It was an honor to share the ring with you.

One of my favorite moments from the World Championships happened before anyone even stepped onto the floor to compete.

Standing in this ring were martial artists from different corners of the United States and from countries including Argentina, Denmark, Mexico, Great Britain, and South Africa. Despite our different backgrounds, languages, and life experiences, we all stepped into the same ring because of our shared passion for Tang Soo Do.

This year has been especially meaningful for me. It’s my first World Championships competing as a Sam Dan, my first in the Senior division, and my first time returning to Worlds since all of my knee surgeries. Stepping back onto the floor at this level is something I don’t take for granted.

As we waited to compete, everyone was understandably a little nervous. I suggested we take a group photo before we began. It was a simple idea, but it broke the ice. Once the competition started, we were no longer just standing beside strangers—we were cheering each other on, congratulating one another after each event, and sharing an experience that none of us will forget.

Moments like this remind me that the World Championships are about much more than competition. They’re about learning, friendship, and being part of a worldwide Tang Soo Do family.

As an instructor, that’s what excites me the most.

Every seminar I attend, every conversation I have, and every experience I gain becomes something I can bring back to my students at Martial Arts Revelation. My hope is that, years from now, many of them will have the opportunity to stand in a ring just like this—meeting lifelong friends from around the world, representing their school with pride, and creating memories they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

That’s one of the greatest privileges of being an instructor. The experiences we have don’t end with us—they become part of the journey for the next generation.

One of the things I love most about Tang Soo Do is that there is always another mountain to climb.

Earn your next belt. Refine your form. Improve your sparring. Become a better instructor. Help someone else succeed.

Every milestone is worth celebrating—but it should never be the end of the journey.

Some of my favorite memories in Tang Soo Do happened before we ever stepped into the ring.

Here we are at a Region 1 Championship waiting for our ring assignments. Pictured with me are Mr. A and a couple of students from Master Ohlson’s school, Paresh Martial Arts, that I had the privilege of teaching over the years.

The WTSDA World Championships are almost here again. They only happen every other year, and in just a couple of weeks martial artists from around the world will gather in Chicago to compete, learn, and reconnect.

Looking back at photos like this reminds me that while tournaments are exciting, it’s the friendships and shared journey that last a lifetime.
