Over the next two weeks, we’ll have a special guest joining our Wednesday classes.

Camila - a Brazilian forró dancer and instructor currently based in Paris - will be joining us for our weekly classes and for two special workshops focused on roots-style forró movements and vocabulary.

The structure of the evening will remain the same as our regular weekly classes:

7 PM - Beginners & Fundamentals Class

As always, we’ll start with our regular class focused on basic steps, timing, connection, and foundations for beginners and initiated dancers.

8 PM - Special Workshops with Camila

During our usual intermediate/advanced class time, we’ll be offering two special workshops dedicated to movements and concepts from the roots style repertoire that we don’t usually explore as deeply in our regular weekly classes.

The workshop schedule for the Forró New York Weekend is now complete and available on the website, with all activities carefully organized to create a diverse and progressive experience throughout the weekend.

This edition brings together local instructors from New York, the participation of James - who has been developing beautiful work with the forró community in Newark, New Jersey - and our featured guest instructor, the Brazilian dancer and teacher Camila, currently based in Paris, France.

While James brings a perspective more connected to the forró universitário style, Camila’s work leans more toward roots-oriented approaches, helping create a wider stylistic range across the festival.

The program includes workshops for beginners, intermediate dancers, and advanced participants, alongside social dancing and community activities throughout the weekend.

is a Brazilian forró teacher, musician, educator, and founder of the Forró New York project, where he also coordinates the festival.

Based in New York City, his teaching is rooted in forró universitário while embracing the diversity of forró, combining musicality, rhythm, connection, and body awareness to help students develop a natural and expressive dance.

is a Brazilian forró instructor originally from Minas Gerais, now based in Newark, NJ.

His style is grounded in the tradition of forró universitário, with a dynamic approach focused on building strong fundamentals so arm movements, turns, and figures can flow naturally, comfortably, and spontaneously.

Expect classes full of energy and fun combinations to explore on the dance floor, with a strong focus on the movement vocabulary and repertoire connected to the tradition of forró universitário.

Meet Thassyo, the official DJ for the next Forró New York Weekend.

has been building a strong connection with the Forró community in New York City through his DJ sets, blending traditional rhythms with contemporary sounds that keep the dance floor alive. His work focuses on creating an authentic Brazilian atmosphere while introducing new audiences to the richness of Forró culture.

Recently, he launched a new project dedicated to spinning Forró vinyl records, celebrating the warmth, nostalgia, and unique listening experience that vinyl brings to the dance floor.
