The name Algarve comes from way way back in the day when the North African Moors settled here and named the place 'Al-gharb al-Andalus' (or Western Andalucía). These days it's known simply as The Algarve - or the 'the west' - and the further west you travel, the wilder the scenery gets with huge cliffs, hidden caves and crazy cliff jumps like this one.
