⛰️When the mountain becomes a stadium 🏟️… where does trail running go next?

UTMB has become far more than a race around Mont Blanc.

The world’s best athletes come.
The cameras follow.
Sponsors follow the cameras.
And the spectators follow the stars.

That growth is incredible for trail running.

❓But it also raises an interesting question:
At what point does the race become the show?

🎤 Artists between races?
📺 Commercial banners on the climbs?
🏆 A giant opening ceremony?

Maybe this is simply what happens when a sport grows.

We looked at marathon-distance trail races across Europe and found entry fees ranging from €30 to €225.

That’s a €195 difference for roughly the same distance.
⁉️So here’s the real question:

We compared the average entry fees for ~20K trail running races across Europe - and the difference is hard to ignore.

🇨🇭 Switzerland: €92
🇬🇧 UK: €71
🇵🇹 Portugal: €27

That’s a 3.4× difference for roughly the same distance.
